Maintenance Technician – Mechanical at AECI Mining Explosives
About the company
AECI is a key partner in making mining safer and more productive so that the world can be better. This is done through virtual reality training and blast simulation, as well as the creation of a “digital twin” of a customer’s operations and on-site control of their mineral extraction chemical processes. Since the company was started more than 120 years ago to sell explosives, tools, and services, its main goal has been to change the way mining works through innovation and highly specialized research and development.
Job Purpose
To do a general inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement work on light and heavy-duty trucks, other diesel-powered vehicles, and related equipment, and to use a wide range of workshop tools and equipment safely to keep the business running.
Functional Outputs
- To create and use a yearly maintenance planner to keep activities going.
- To keep accurate records of extra parts on-site at all times so they can be found quickly, and to make sure all paperwork, like inspection sheets, work orders, and signatures, is done correctly.
- To make sure that the stock of spare parts is above the minimum amount and to re-order them when they run out.
- To work with the manager to find qualified outside help when contractual jobs on-site call for it.
- To make sure that the work area and company vehicles are clean and tidy after being used for business, and to support good housekeeping on site.
- To effectively supervise the support team in accordance with the company’s standards for safety, safe working practices, and “STEP” at all times, and to make sure that good customer-stakeholder relationships are always kept.
- To do basic maintenance on both MMUs and Light Vehicles to make sure the fleet is in good shape for operations, working with the engineering support team.
- Diagnose, fix, and maintain power transmission systems, such as clutches, differentials, gears, bearings, universal joints, and hydraulic units.
- To do regular maintenance and service work, such as tune-ups, checking and topping off fluids, and replacing hoses, belts, and windshield wipers.
- Diagnose, fix, and maintain the pneumatics, hydraulics, and power take-off tools on trucks to make sure the fleet is in good shape.
- To look into machine accidents and write reports about them
- To make sure that all inspections are done, recorded, and suggestions are sent to the right people.
- To make sure that the repair team always follows company procedures
- To help workers who work off-site when they need it.
Needed Skills and Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or higher in electrical engineering.
- At least 5 years of work experience in the manufacturing, explosives, or mining industries. Good written and verbal speaking skills.
- Professional training or a vocational certificate in the repair of electrical or electronic equipment
- Skills for handling problems and fixing problems
- Must be old enough to drive and have a current driver’s license B.
- Being able to meet goals
- Solid understanding of electrical, servo, and PLC systems, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Team player who knows and understands the law and rules about explosives.
- Follow up on activities to make sure they are done.
- Having a certification from Mincom is a plus.

Specific Experience Required
- Health and safety rules in the job place must be taken seriously.
- Must be able to talk to people from different areas.
- Must have a lot of experience with planning and scheduling upkeep. Must be a good manager.
