Job Description
The Luminos Fund, a global nonprofit providing educational opportunities for the world’s most underserved children, is looking for a Finance Manager in Ghana to oversee its financial activities in the country.
The Finance Manager in Ghana will be crucial to Luminos’ financial management and operations both in Ghana and in our offices worldwide. Also, the ideal candidate will possess solid technical accounting expertise and experience, excel in communication and collaboration, demonstrate outstanding attention to detail, and be skilled in enhancing capacity and delivering training to both internal team members and external collaborators.
We seek an individual who is self-driven, inquisitive, and prepared to approach problems with creativity and autonomy, while demonstrating a strong capacity to uphold the utmost standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
This full-time role will be located in our Accra office and will directly report to the Associate Director of Finance, while also having a secondary reporting connection to the Country Manager, Ghana. The applicant must possess the necessary work authorization to be employed in Ghana.
TASKS AND OBLIGATIONS
Global Finance
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of Finance to oversee the comprehensive accounting and bookkeeping for the Ghana office, covering banking, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax withholdings, payroll, employment-related deductions, and employee benefits for the Luminos Fund (Ghana) entity.
- Oversee the yearly financial audits, submission of annual reports, tax submissions, and all other nonprofit reporting obligations for the Luminos Fund (Ghana) organization.
- Assist in the creation of the yearly budget for the Luminos Fund (Ghana) organization.
- Confirm that all Luminos financial policies are executed with the utmost integrity.
- Offer continuous financial capacity development for both internal team members and external partners.
- Develop and oversee connections with reliable vendors and service providers.
- Assist with everyday accounting and bookkeeping for the worldwide organization.
- Assist in the examination of financial transactions generated by other local finance teams.
- Execute various additional projects as designated.
Management
- Collaborating with the U.S. Finance team, oversee financial compliance, which encompasses in-country registration, accreditation, and adherence to tax regulations.
- Collaborate with the U.S. Finance team and executive management to assess and update organizational policies each year.
- Assist with compliance and due diligence procedures for donors, partners, and service providers.
- Assist in executing procurement policies and procedures, which include tracking local market prices to guarantee cost efficiency in operations.
Grant Administration
- Assist in the budgeting and contracting procedures with implementation partners.
- Assist in creating financial reporting templates and training resources for implementing partners.
- Examine budget usage reports from executing partners to verify adequate documentation and reporting.
- Assist in the prompt creation of financial reports for grants to donors.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business. Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification is highly desired.
- Over 5 years of financial management experience in a corporate or nonprofit environment with global operations.
- Skilled in U.S. GAAP and non-profit IFRS accounting.
- Skilled in the English language.
- Proficient in overseeing yearly audits in accordance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP, and the local regulations set by Ghanaian authorities.
- Proficient skills and extensive experience in Sage Intacct, Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
- Capability to collaborate remotely and across cultures with global teams, demonstrating compassion, understanding, and respect.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Capacity to manage several tasks within set timeframes.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of conveying complex information clearly and fostering robust relationships with various stakeholders.
- Strongly preferred is experience with donor reporting on various grants, particularly those with restricted funding.
- Strongly preferred is experience in a startup setting and creating something from the ground up.
- A solid understanding of and established connections with important regulatory authorities in Ghana are preferred.
