ROLE: Director, Global Information Security

The hands-on Director of Information Security grows, improves, and manages Global Communities’ digital protection and cybersecurity initiatives in all offices worldwide. This includes framework(s), architecture, internal and external threat prevention, and information security. S/he creates, implements, and enforces information security policies, standards, and procedures.

The Information Security Director ensures all systems follow security policies and procedures. IT risk evaluations, audits, and security incident investigations are his responsibility. The Chief Information Officer and other key Global Communities staff receive clear risk management, digital protection, and cybersecurity guidance from the Director of Information Security. S/he collaborates with data protection counsel to create and implement a complete information security plan.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements multi-year strategic strategies to improve information security maturity throughout the enterprise. Aligns strategy with corporate objectives, risk tolerance, and emerging cybersecurity trends.
  • Creates, maintains, and improves information security frameworks, including policies, standards, and procedures. Maintain alignment with industry best practices and changing organizational needs.
  • Collaborates with internal data protection counsel to guarantee compliance with worldwide data protection requirements, such as the GDPR. Oversees the creation and implementation of a comprehensive data protection and privacy program.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to ensure that security measures are effectively implemented in accordance with business policy and local requirements.
  • Controls and approves the design of security architecture and systems.
  • Leads information security operations, which include managed security service provider management, incident response, impact analysis, remediation, and prevention.
  • Review vulnerability and event detection plans, flag risks, and follow up with IT teams as needed.
  • Schedules regular security audits, which include coordination and involvement. Leads and oversees the execution of remedial plan(s).
  • Leads the assessment and mitigation of internal and external threat prevention.
  • Acts as the subject-matter expert, answering cybersecurity inquiries and concerns from personnel, partners, and donors.
  • Communicates security policies, standards, processes, and best practices throughout the organization.
  • Periodically tests cybersecurity defenses utilizing tools, “red team” exercises, or other well-known testing processes and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Creates and executes hands-on global training programs to educate staff about security best practices and data protection standards.
  • Collaborates with regional teams, procurement, and legal to identify and manage the security risks associated with third-party vendors worldwide.
  • Hands-on leadership of a global information security team, including active participation in strategy planning and direct assistance for regional security leads. Develop a collaborative and inclusive global team culture.

POSITION-SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise a team of at least two employees in compliance with the organization’s rules and relevant legislation. Responsibilities include servant and inclusive leadership, coaching, mentoring, allocating, and directing work; interviewing, employing, and training staff; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and responding to concerns by providing solutions.
  • It is expected that you would travel on behalf of the organization up to 15% every year to support technology audits, projects, and/or initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least eight years of related job experience, or a minimum of twelve years of related work experience.
  • A degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, cybersecurity, or a similar profession, as well as relevant cybersecurity experience.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or comparable certification.
  • Proven ability to handle several concurrent engagements with varying priorities, needs, and deadlines.
  • A minimum of 7 to 8 years’ experience in digital protection and cybersecurity roles.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience managing worldwide digital protection and cybersecurity initiatives, including personnel management and IT project management.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and regulatory needs across many nations.
  • Experience analyzing IT security threats, developing practical action plans, and learning about IT service management processes and technologies.
  • Expertise with industry standards like as ITIL, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, and NIST SP 800-53.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, decision-making, oral, and writing communication abilities.
  • Understanding of servant and inclusive leadership concepts and their practical implementation in a geographically distributed team setting.
  • Evidence of successful functioning in enterprises with global, regional, and national workforce.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships, work successfully in a multicultural setting, and respect diversity.
  • Strong personal, organizational, and self-management skills, as well as the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Knowing a second language is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an international development nonprofit/NGO setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the NGO Reference Model is preferred.
