POSITION: Technical Specialist

Description

USAID Ghana, led by FHI 360, is accelerating social and behavioural change activities. We are now looking for suitable candidates for the job of Technical Specialist: Preventing and Responding to Child, Early, and Forced Marriages and Unions.

Position Description:

The Technical Specialist: Preventing and Responding to Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions will be a member of the project team and work with Ghana Health Service/Health Promotion Division, relevant government ministries, local non-governmental organizations, community organizations, USAID, and others, etc., to combat, respond to, and address the social, cultural, religious, and other factors that influence/all for the acceptance of early and forced marriage of children.

The Technical Specialist:

Preventing and Responding to Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions will work under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party to provide specialized technical assistance, leadership, and direction to collaborating organizations, communities, local civil society, and partner organizations to review, plan, and manage implementation, and monitor targeted behavioural, social, cultural, and gender norms and behaviours that facilitate early and force

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Leads, guides, and provides technical direction in the development and implementation of strategies, approaches, activities, programs, and social and behavioral change interventions to combat Ghana’s religious, cultural, and social groups’ attitudes and norms that promote, encourage, and/or tolerate early and forced child marriage. The chosen candidate must lead and support quantifiable social and behavioural change projects through formative research, design, media and materials production, community mobilization, and assessment in a short period.
  • Responds to contract and grant agreements’ specified targets and goals, ensuring timely completion and full support and compliance with the FHI360 contract.
  • Completes detailed strategy write-ups, work plans, and quarterly reports, among other reporting needs.
  • Liaises with and manages partner organizations involved in community mobilization activities, as well as supports the capacity of local organizations and other regional and district-level elements, through the development and implementation of a work program aimed at addressing and ending early and forced child marriage.

Minimum requirements:

  • 6–10 years of experience establishing and directing advocacy and behaviour change programmes targeted at bringing about demonstrable change in social, cultural, religious, and behavioural standards in underdeveloped nations

Specific knowledge requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with community engagement and mobilization models and strategies, as well as their practical application to the prevention and elimination of harmful social/cultural/religious/behavioural norms and practices, as well as technical knowledge in child rights, gender, child protection, and related subject.
  • Field experience planning and implementing advocacy, community mobilization, child welfare, child protection, child rights, social protection, and social justice projects and programs in Ghana (particularly the northern regions) and/or other regions with documented impact on a large scale.
  • Exhibited exceptional technical, programming, leadership, and management abilities.
  • Must be able to accomplish tasks and assignments on schedule and to high standards. A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines is necessary.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills in English and one or more other Ghanaian local languages are necessary.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation abilities, as well as experience collaborating with communities, civic groups, churches/mosques, community groups, partners, funders, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Ability to prioritize while multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Language requirements include English and one or more local languages.
