POSITION: HR Officer – Training & Development

Company Overview 

Galiano Gold Inc. is listed on both the New York and Toronto stock exchanges. It focuses on finding new mines, developing them, and running mining operations. Asanko Gold Mine is a part of Galiano Gold Inc. It is a large mine with four main open areas and several smaller deposits, located on the Asankrangwa Gold Belt. The Asanko Gold Mine processing plant is built to handle 5. 5 million tons of material each year, and it can be expanded in the future.

Job Description

This is a summary of what the job is about and what tasks will be done. This job involves creating and providing necessary Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training for new employees, contractors, and temporary staff. It includes both classroom lessons and hands-on activities. The training is part of the Learning and Development orientation and special Human Resources training.

Main Duties

Training, Planning, and Preparation

  • Help figure out what training the staff needs and support their development.
  • Create lesson plans about the Health and Safety topic.
  • Look into, study, create, and develop training materials about Health and Safety in the mine setting.
  • Help update the current training material.
  • Create helpful training programs for new employees and teach them about safety risks.
  • This includes training for working in tight spaces, working safely at heights, locking and tagging out equipment, and being aware of chemicals.
  • Create and put into action rules and steps for managing human resources that help find employees with a lot of potential.
  • Create a plan for replacing key positions and set up a system to help employees grow in their careers so they are ready for more responsibilities.
  • Create and present the safety part of the work program.
  • Help manage job programs and organize the necessary arrangements for them.

Training Assessments

  • Teach and evaluate both Asanko workers and contractors, following the rules set by Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd.  Health and safety rules.
  • Check how skilled and experienced employees are right now.
  • Find the skill gaps from the assessment and suggest the right amount of training needed.
  • Keep a full list of all classroom training sessions that have been conducted, following the rules set by Asanko and the Organizational Capability Department.
  • Help check the current Asanko Health and Safety training programs.
  • Help and support the participants who have trouble reading and writing so they can understand the questions and pick the right answers.

Executing Training 

  • Highlight the importance of Health and Safety in every part of training to promote a culture of Zero Harm.
  • Give basic training about health and safety to new employees and contractors.
  • Lead health and safety training sessions for workers and contractors, both in-person and with an instructor.
  • Provide Health and Safety update training for current employees and contractors.
  • Make sure all training records are put into Sage and that training assessments are kept in order.

Training Syllabus

  • Help create Health and Safety training materials and lessons.
  • Help create training programs for HR and related topics.
  • Follow the training rules of Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd closely and meet international training standards.

Training Evaluations

  • Create and share reports about the results of training for the Training Center’s Organizational Capability Department.
  • Keep an eye on how employees and contractors are doing their work and give them training and guidance when needed.
  • Give contractors advice about different training sessions.
  • Make training reports every week.

Required Skills or Experience

Official Qualifications (including Professional Certifications): 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in People Development or something similar from a well-known university.
  • Having a professional certification in Training and Development (like CIPD or ATD) is a plus.

Additional Knowledge

  • It’s better to have a certification as a Workplace Trainer and Assessor.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment Officer Certification (MINCOM).
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety rules in a big gold mining project.
  • Good understanding of skill-based school programs.
  • Having a good understanding of training and development is very important.
  • You need to have a valid driving license from Ghana and be skilled at driving small vehicles.

Experience 

  • At least 5 years of experience in teaching or training, ideally in a Health and Safety field.
