Role Overview

This position requires an experienced Human Capital generalist who will be responsible for converting the business strategy into a set of supporting plans, which they will execute and assess the impact of. The incumbent will operate as a trusted advisor to the management team in all elements affecting people, organizational dynamics, and engagement, and will ensure that all people-related matters are in accordance with external regulations and internal governance.

In collaboration with Senior Managers and Human Capital partners throughout the Old Mutual Group, the incumbent will deliver appropriate Human Capital solutions for the business, execute all enterprise Human Capital calendar activities, and serve as an integrator across the entire HC value chain.

Key Result Areas

People Strategy

  • Contributes to the formulation of an in-country Human Capital strategy and underlying plans that are aligned with the company strategy, then executes on these plans and measures their impact.
  • Develops a thorough grasp of the company’s goals and issues, as well as the interests of its employees, and proactively develops solutions to solve gaps and opportunities, increase productivity, and improve the overall employee experience.
  • Prepares and contributes to frequent reporting for in-country stakeholders and the broader Old Mutual Group, which is used to track progress on important initiatives and provide valuable insights.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance

  • Understands and follows the relevant governance, compliance, and risk policies and procedures to maintain an effective Human Capital risk and controls environment.
  • Conducts necessary communications, change, and training exercises to ensure a common understanding of important policies, governance, and controls.
  • Takes reasonable risks, makes open observations, questions assumptions, and positively impacts others.

Human Capital Business Partnership

  • Serves as a trusted counselor and coach to the in-country management team and employees on all issues concerning people, organizational dynamics, and engagement.
  • Partners with management teams to provide advice on important human resource challenges and opportunities, as well as how to foster a high-performance culture at the business, team, and individual levels.
  • Provides policy advice and interpretation, as well as advisory and consultancy services in many areas of human capital, ensuring that all Group governances, policies, and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Assists in the development of responses to corporate transformation, change, and culture shifts, as well as the implementation of effective change management and communication strategies and plans for strategic and operational change.
  • Collaborates with the larger Old Mutual Group to identify solutions to important people concerns, as well as to ensure that business demands are addressed in policy and practice design, as well as segment and/or enterprise Human Capital projects.

Human Capital Operations

  • Manages the implementation of the HC Calendar cycles and HC practices in-country, and collaborates with Line Managers to carry out the following HC practices: Talent
  • Management, Performance Management, Learning & Development, Reward & Recognition, Organizational Effectiveness (Change, Culture, Wellness, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Workforce Planning and Organizational Design), Employment Relations, and Change Management.
  • Manages all talent attraction and acquisition procedures (recruitment and selection).
  • Manages payroll, contributes to the development of the payroll budget, and maintains budget, policy, and payment process compliance.
  • Provides input to Country Mancos, Exco, and OMAR Central HC on HC challenges and business needs.
  • Prepares and monitors functional financial projections and budgets to ensure proper cost control and management.
  • Enhances Line Management capabilities in people management and employee engagement.

Data, Analytics, and Insight

Uses data and reporting to find patterns, trends, and inconsistencies, and then applies this knowledge to deliver insights, diagnose problems, and mitigate risks.
Uses data, analysis, and insights to diagnose issues and dangers, as well as to provide proactive advice on people’s priorities and potential actions.

Stakeholder and Personnel Management

  • Manages relationships with third-party vendors and consultants.
  • Creates and uses professional networks within and outside the organization.
  • Manages an effective HR team as needed.

Requirements: Skills, qualifications, and experience are required.

The position demands a competent Human Capital expert with experience creating and leading plans to deliver the business’s human capital agenda, disciplined execution of both operational and strategic initiatives, and a track record of success.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related profession.
  • Professional HC certification or membership in a recognized institute would be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3–4 years of experience in a similar function, preferably in a multinational setting. Experience in line management would be advantageous.
  • Deep understanding of in-country statutory and employment laws and regulations, as well as experience in the full range of Human Capital practices such as Talent, Learning & Development, Organizational Effectiveness (Change, Culture, and Workforce Planning and Design), Performance & Reward, Employee Relations, and Compliance.
  • Self-management abilities include good planning and organizational skills, time management, personal accountability, and results.
  • Advanced computer literacy. Experience with the Workday (information system) would be advantageous.
  • Strong interest in data and analytics.
