POSITION: Project Coordinator

About the Team:

The Project Coordinator, who reports directly to the WASH Climate Program Manager, is an important member of WaterAid Ghana’s Sustainable Services Programmes Department (SPD). This section provides strategic and technical guidance to help WAG achieve its program objectives. The coordinator’s responsibilities include project design, delivery, risk mitigation, and grant administration, all of which are based on WaterAid’s commitment to program quality standards, donor criteria, and sector best practices.

About the role:

The Project Coordinator function is critical to accomplishing WaterAid Ghana’s (WAG) strategic goals under the WASH and Climate Program. This post is intended to bridge the gap between project ambitions and tangible results, with a focus on improving climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in the Upper East region. The work requires you to lead, coordinate, and ensure that activities run smoothly while adhering to national policies and WAG’s purpose of improving community resilience through sustainable WASH solutions. The function promotes collaboration, manages resources, and oversees project implementation. His work not only ensures that projects reach their performance targets, but also adds to the Climate Resilient WASH Program’s overall goal of providing high-quality WASH services.

Additionally, you will

  • Provide proactive leadership and technical direction to employees and partners to improve project execution and collaboration.
  • Lead project execution, ensuring that it adheres to task scopes and promotes collaboration within the given project team.
  • Ensure that project activities are carried out with high quality and efficiency, under senior program and technical advisers’ recommendations.
  • Work with the PME Manager to design and manage effective MEAL systems, ensuring that data collection, reporting, and utilization are consistent with WA standards and donor expectations.
  • Champion the documentation and dissemination of project learnings in collaboration with the Ghana Water Resource Commission, EPA, MSWR, and subnational partners.
  • Represent the project in various venues and with stakeholders at all levels to increase project visibility and collaborations.
  • Lead networking with climate and WASH sector actors in the project’s geographical area.
  • Ensure the secure and efficient administration of project resources, such as equipment and records.
  • Oversee the effective use of human and financial resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Serve as an effective liaison between the Ghana Water Resource Commission and the EPA, ensuring efficient communication and reporting at the regional and district levels.

About You:

Essential skills

  • A master’s degree in climate change, environmental studies, WASH, Development Studies, water resource management, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of progressive supervisory and technical expertise in climate-resilient WASH programming.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience in project planning, management, and evaluation, ideally in the water and sanitation area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ghana’s WASH institutions, regulations, and policies.
  • Proven expertise in improving WASH systems, including the development of sustainable service delivery and behaviour modification models, as well as the capacity building of service providers.
  • Expertise in developing and delivering training sessions on WASH, climate resilient WASH, system strengthening, and hygiene behaviour modification.
  • Proven experience with budgeting, budget management, and participatory consortium or partnership management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, cultural awareness, and dedication to company ideals, all backed up by good computer literacy.

Desirable Skills

  • Proficiency in community-led management approaches, demonstrating the capacity to effectively integrate WASH services with overall development goals.
  • Strong background in advocating for rights-based, pro-poor, equity, and inclusion issues in development contexts.
  • Experience with Community-Based Water Resource Management (CBWRM) is quite valuable.
  • Ability to work across development sectors to improve WASH outcomes through multi-sectoral methods.
