Job Title: Knowledge and Learning Manager, Ghana

HerStart: Future Innovation

Youth Challenge International created HerStart: Innovate the Future to promote innovative ideas for a more fair and thriving economy in Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Aspiring entrepreneurs receive training in social enterprise, gender-responsive company planning, social impact measurement, and financing. Canadian volunteers will assist activities through on-site placements and capacity building with partner organizations. An entrepreneurial ecosystem will also identify and remove gendered barriers to enable young female entrepreneurs. This funding model will also help groups deliver gender-responsive initiatives that sustain businesses.

Each country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem will be catalyzed to identify and remove gendered impediments to enable young female entrepreneurs.

Job Description

  • Location: Bolgatanga, Ghana, including regional travel
  • Contract Length: 1 year, renewable
  • Job Type: 37.5 hours/week, full-time.
  • Monthly pay: GHS 10,500
  • Start Date: ASAP

Summary

The Knowledge and Learning Manager will supervise the implementation of HerStart: Innovate the Future’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) system in Northern Ghana to gather, share and act on important program knowledge using a dynamic knowledge management system.

The Knowledge and Learning Manager will employ learning methodologies and informational, organizational, and technical abilities to create and continuously improve systems for tracking and managing knowledge to improve operations and outputs in Ghana and program effectiveness globally.

This position will be headquartered in Bolgatanga, Ghana, near the YCI country office in Tamale.

Responsibility:

  • Strategy and Project Management: Support the Project Lead in strategy, planning, and general management of the HerStart Project in Ghana, including continuing strategic formulation and planning with teams and partners, work planning, implementation planning, and team collaboration; Lead and manage Bolgatanga-based Canadian volunteers.
  • Knowledge Management: Work closely with YCI Headquarters employees and key project stakeholders (such as volunteers, sub-contractors, and partners) to adapt and implement the HerStart: Innovate the Future MEAL strategy at the country level.
  • Maintain data quality through proactive, participative monitoring; Support the creation of the knowledge management system, including the design of context-appropriate tools, resources, and activities to capture qualitative and quantitative data; Drive country-level project reporting, including project results and performance reports, briefings, summaries, and presentations for diverse audiences; Make sure stakeholders know about the project’s successes.
  • Learning Management: To ensure program relevance and success, identify, document, and communicate best practice, lessons learned, and trends in youth and women’s livelihoods. To identify best practices and lessons gained across the YCI network, consolidate data and learning from program assessments; Collaborate with YCI volunteers, partners, and stakeholders to increase the integration of program learnings across all program delivery; inform HerStart communications activities with high-level summaries, stories, and aggregated statistics.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance, training, and ongoing support to partners on the efficient use of the YCI project monitoring and reporting system and application of findings; Ensure sufficient onboarding of relevant staff and volunteers on MEAL systems and provide ongoing coaching/support; Maintain positive, collaborative, and productive relationships with project personnel, partners, and sector stakeholders, offering technical help as needed.

Competencies

  • You’re a self-starter with 5+ years of progressively responsible leadership expertise in participatory knowledge management systems.
  • You have a successful track record in planning, managing, implementing, and monitoring MEAL strategies and systems for program tracking and improvement.
  • You’re passionate about investing in women’s and youth’s livelihoods and motivated by innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • You excel at creating user-friendly data-gathering tools, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and generating summary reports and presentations.
  • You’ve managed and trained project stakeholders on MEAL processes.
  • You understand gender equality, girl empowerment, and Northern Ghana’s young women’s socioeconomic profile.
  • You’re a Ghanaian citizen or permanent resident with good written and spoken English.
