Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (“UMA”) is a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International that is responsible for underground development and production for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
Position Description
UMA is looking for an Electrician who is certified, experienced, and driven to join our Electrical Team. This is a Fixed Term employment in Obuasi with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical Foreman and is responsible for their own and their coworkers’ safety while maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all underground electrical systems and equipment. The incumbent will place a significant emphasis on compliance to ensure that all staff, including employees and subcontractors, have the necessary skills to perform safely and efficiently.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site inductions to ensure that all employees and contractors are site-compliant and capable of performing the necessary duties and/or positions.
- Perform scheduled electrical maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications and the Electrical Code, while adhering to corporate and client standard operating procedures and safety regulations.
- Identify and organize the resources needed for each project, such as tools and other equipment, additional personnel, or assistance, to ensure that jobs are completed efficiently and on schedule, and to maximize production.
- Complete all service sheets and document any further repairs completed on each work.
- Diagnose and predict any problems or future failures, and offer solutions.
- Service and replacement part manuals must be read and interpreted.
- Conduct regular checks of systems and tools.
- As needed, complete various daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Be willing to share your skills and experience with coworkers and be open to learning new approaches.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in the shop and on-job locations.
Required Qualifications or Experience
- Must have a BSc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a recognized university and at least 5 years experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines or a Diploma in
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering and at least 10 years of experience working in Hard Rock Underground Mines.
- Must be familiar with the Republic of Ghana’s Mining Act and related laws.
- A valid Ghanaian driving and operating license (C & E Classes) is required, as well as the ability to drive a manual SUV underground.
- Strong demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills are required to influence and engage with operational and non-operational staff and contractors.
- Must have good work ethic and the ability to converse politely with coworkers.
- Leadership talents and the ability to operate in a collaborative atmosphere are required.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities, as well as analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Capability to swiftly learn new jobs as well as instruct, coach, and mentor crew members
- Ability to operate under pressure and a strong drive to succeed
- A high emphasis on safety and hazard identification.
- A strong sense of urgency and a focus on outcomes
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural context. Ability to work both day and night.
