A vacancy exists in our Mining Department for the job of GEOLOGICAL ASSISTANTS.

JOB PURPOSE

To effectively support mine geologists and technicians in providing ore mining supervision to reduce ore losses, dilution, and misclassification, as well as material trucking and allocation to various stockpiles. In addition, data gathering, sampling, and administration for RC drilling will be undertaken.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise ore mining.
  • Supervise blast heave levelling to reduce ore dilution.
  • Liaise with mine surveyors during ore marking for mining.
  • Flagging and spraying delimited ore blocks according to grade bins.
  • Intermediate stockpile coordination ensures precise material allocation and count reconciliation at the end of the shift.
  • Supervise contract samplers to ensure proper RC sample collection from the cyclone, sample splitting to acquire the required weight, and drill chip cleaning for recording purposes.
  • Conduct additional sampling activities (e.g., GC drilling, trenching, stockpile, bench face, etc.)
  • Align the GC drill rigs before drilling.
  • Supervise the preparation of the GC drilling pad and the backfilling of the drill hole.
  • Ensure that samples are properly tagged and bagged before being transported to the laboratory.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Mine Geologist and Geology Technician.

Required Skill or Experience

Knowledge

  • Must have completed at least the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
  • Two years of general mining experience, including at least six months of geological work.
  • Must have hands-on expertise with fieldwork, including sample collection and data gathering.

Skills

  • Must be able to communicate in both oral and written English.
  • Capacity to effectively organize and manage sample collections, including proper labeling, documentation, and storage.
  • Good interpersonal and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to use fundamental understanding of standards, methods, and procedures in a work context;
  • Requirements for this position include the ability to work in a team and independently with minimum supervision, knowledge of safety principles and standards, and experience in extreme mining environments.
  • Must have a clean Ghanaian driving licence and be competent to drive on mining terrain;
