POSITION: Senior Tax Associate (Risk & Compliance)
OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Compliance & Risk Associate will oversee adherence to tax laws and regulations, manage tax-related risks, and assist in the creation and implementation of strong internal controls to protect the company’s financial integrity. Core duties encompass recognizing and alleviating tax risks, guaranteeing punctual and precise tax reporting and adherence, as well as executing proactive strategies to improve and strengthen internal controls.
DUTIES:
ADHERENCE & RISK
Tax Strategy & Adherence:
- Aid in the formulation and implementation of tax planning approaches to enhance tax standings. Guarantee complete adherence to tax statutes and rules, comprising the preparation and prompt submission of tax returns.
- Keep track of alterations in tax regulations and provide guidance on their effects to guarantee the company stays compliant and capitalizes on potential tax-saving options.
Tax Risk Oversight:
- Recognize, evaluate, and reduce tax-related threats, encompassing risks linked to tax reporting, submission, and adherence.
- Adopt methods to reduce the likelihood of incurring penalties, interest, or extra taxes by engaging in proactive tax planning and effective risk management.
- Assess and provide feedback on the efficiency of risk management strategies, suggesting enhancements when necessary.
Internal Mechanisms for Tax Adherence:
- Assist in the creation, documentation, and execution of internal controls to guarantee tax compliance and the precision of tax and financial reports.
- Perform regular evaluations of internal controls to confirm compliance with policies and uncover areas for enhancement.
- Make sure that internal controls are comprehensively assessed for efficiency and are consistently revised to align with changing tax regulations and best practices.
- Work together with auditors to confirm the effectiveness of tax-related internal controls.
- Create interdepartmental training initiatives to guarantee that every team understands compliance standards and their responsibilities in upholding them.
Tax Reporting and Documentation:
- Work together with the finance team to guarantee prompt and precise tax reporting.
- Examine tax returns and other financial documents to ensure adherence to tax laws and corporate guidelines.
Interdepartmental Cooperation:
- Guarantee the effective incorporation of tax factors into business choices and procedures.
- Offer advice on tax compliance and risk management, suggesting potential tax consequences and approaches to resolve them.
DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONS
- Oversee the team to implement designated projects within the established deadlines and budget.
- Create and execute essential strategies to promote adaptable work practices and foster team cohesion.
- Conduct performance evaluations and development strategies (including training) with junior staff members.
- Establish a training and development program for employees that aligns with the technical and business requirements of the organization.
- Manage the rotation timetable (active and inactive) of junior personnel.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is required.
- A master’s degree is an advantage.
- Relevant professional certifications (CFA, CPA) are advantageous.
- Having multicultural experience is essential.
- Fluency in French is an advantage.
UNDERSTANDING & EXPERTISE:
- At least 8+ years of experience in a Big 4 firm or similar, concentrating on tax advisory, planning, and reporting.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), possessing advanced Excel expertise for analyzing and reporting tax data.
- Comprehensive understanding of local tax legislation and rules, encompassing corporate income tax, indirect taxes, and other pertinent tax systems.
- Familiarity with tax compliance procedures, encompassing the preparation, submission, and documentation of tax returns, while ensuring precision and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of tax reforms and regulatory updates, along with the capacity to evaluate their effects on the company’s tax standings.
- Familiarity with financial applications (e.g., SAP, Sage).
