About this role
This job leads the Health, Safety, and Environment disciplines at the BU and site levels, executing Enterprise strategies, programs, and procedures while also advising BU leadership on performance, risk, and gap-filling measures. The job produces Regional/Country strategies in response to unique regulatory requirements and risks that affect the social license to operate.
The function includes being a member of the Business Unit Leadership Team and implementing health, safety, and environmental strategy objectives, standards, and systems into operations.
Your role will consist of
Growth Strategy / Governance
- Implement Enterprise strategies for risk management, compliance, and performance improvement in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) operations.
- Contribute to enterprise standards, systems, processes/tools, strategy, objectives, and supporting performance requirements for Health, Safety, and Environment.
- Develop strategies, initiatives, and improvement plans for asset-specific exposures to improve health, safety, and environmental performance.
- Support operational leadership by offering subject matter expertise and solutions as needed.
- Participate in compliance, assurance, and governance initiatives, and resolve risks identified by reviews and reports.
Operating Excellence
- Monitor health and safety site hazards and performance to identify gaps and develop action plans to improve performance.
- Facilitate assurance at the BU level and take part in Enterprise-wide safety culture and FRM reviews.
- Support the monitoring of BU health, safety, and environmental hazards, including the execution of key controls and verifications at the site level.
- Monitor FRM data for insights and critical trends.
- Lead the effort to eliminate hazardous material spills, improve water management, monitoring, and rehabilitation.
- Drive greater transparency on environmental issues.
- Ensure that all site and BU team members understand their responsibilities for performance improvement in the Health, Safety, and Environment disciplines.
- Benchmark against local industry peers and close performance gaps.
- Assist technical teams in collaborating with other organizations to encourage technological innovation.
People
- Help operational leaders improve their knowledge and abilities in health, safety, and the environment.
- Lead the site’s health, safety, and environmental teams, ensuring that team leader and member protocols and accountability are aligned.
- Support BU and site leadership in embedding safety into the culture through the use of systems, symbols, and a behavioral framework to address gaps and improve.
- Develop capabilities knowledge and technical skills for the team and operational leaders.
- Set performance expectations for your immediate team and offer feedback and coaching.
- Commercial support for annual budgeting and quarterly forecasts: Develop, administer, and report on cost, personnel, and capital expenditure plans.
- Manage resources (budget and personnel) to help meet safety and sustainability goals, KPIs, and indicators.
Your knowledge, training, and skills checklist
Technical Skills:
- Advanced skill in creating and implementing safety and sustainability systems, as well as tools, across several geographical areas and cultures.
- Competent project management skills.
- Competent expertise in data analysis for performance monitoring.
- Advanced proficiency in the application of safety and sustainability requirements, as well as improvement efforts in mining operations.
Knowledge
- Bachelor’s qualifications Safety, Health, and Environment, or a related degree.
- Legislation and standards in many regulatory settings, including permits, monitoring, and performance management for safety, health, and the environment.
- Mining industry and operations.
- Project management principles.
Other requirements
- The desired location is Miami, FL, or the Denver Corporate Office; however, eligible applicants interested in relocating to either Miami, FL, or Denver, CO are urged to apply.
- Significant travel is required, both domestic and foreign.
- Capability to manage several time zones and cultures.
- English proficiency is a necessity. Spanish, French, and Dutch are a plus.
