Job Opening at Habitat for Humanity International

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Africa is looking for an HFHI Representative in Ghana for the upcoming Climate Adaptation Fund project: Improved Resilience of Coastal Communities in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana. The HFHI Representative oversees and implements various climate adaptation activities at the field level in Ghana, with a primary focus on early warning systems, awareness raising, green and blue infrastructure development, mangrove reforestation, and climate-resilient agriculture.

Key Project Responsibilities.

The Habitat for Humanity team will lead the implementation of component 2 through a team of regional, national, and local professionals, with the following major responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement early warning systems, as well as training for their management and maintenance, in 11 Ghanaian communities and ten in Cote d’Ivoire.
  • Set up awareness-raising activities and trainings to integrate EWS plans and escape tactics in 11 Ghanaian communities and 10 in Cote d’Ivoire.
  • Build drainage canals in nine Ghanaian communities and six in Cote d’Ivoire.
  • Build microinfiltration cells in nine Ghanaian settlements and six in Cote d’Ivoire, as well as five Ghanaian seasonal bioretention basins.
  • In ten settlements in Cote d’Ivoire, mangrove systems are being reforested to reduce flood damage.
  • Set established resilient agriculture initiatives in six Cote d’Ivoire communities, including specialized plots and one training centre.
  • Train local workers and communities on project management, maintenance, and climate adaption initiatives.
  • Create and manage contractual arrangements with contractors.
  • Prepare the 6-month progress reports at the nation level and send them to the National
  • Project Management Unit (RPIU) for assessment and integration into the overall 6-month project reports.
  • Attend Steering Committee meetings and prepare project execution status updates for each component.
  • Create technical project reports, publishing to the project knowledge management platform.
  • The closing date for applications is April 5, 2024.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The Representative’s major tasks include, but are not limited to, reporting to the Chief of Party and working with the project team.

  • Encourage engagement with local communities, government agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure that everyone is on the same page with the project’s goals and actions.
  • Lead the creation and execution of project monitoring and evaluation activities in Ghana.
  • Collaborate with contractors to design and manage contract arrangements for project-related tasks, ensuring that project objectives and schedules are met.
  • Coordinate the completion of progress reports and knowledge management tasks.
  • Ensure high-quality support is provided throughout project execution (for example, compliance with project budget, timeframe, and quality requirements).
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Requirements for this position include a master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., climate change adaptation, catastrophe risk management, sustainable development) or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Fluent in English and French.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, as well as the ability to motivate and lead a team of technical experts from many disciplines and cultures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to establish and manage connections with a wide range of stakeholders, including consortium partners, private sector companies, government officials, and donors.
  • Strong project management skills, such as planning, coordination, and monitoring.

Preferred Requirements (in addition to the Minimum):

  • 10+ years of project experience in one or more technical disciplines, preferably with a focus on West Africa, notably coastal climate adaptation, climate resilience, community development, sustainable livelihoods, or other relevant technical fields.
  • Experienced with Adaptation Fund regulations, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Proven expertise managing complex projects, particularly those including climate change adaptation and sustainable development.
  • Experience working in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana will be advantageous.
