POSITION: National Project Coordinator
Reporting Lines
The person in this position will operate under the general oversight of the FAO Representative to Ghana, along with receiving direct technical support from the Fishery Officer at the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Information Management Framework (NFIMF) in the Fisheries Department at Headquarters.
Technical Focus
Background in nutrition, food safety/quality, and security, with extensive expertise in product development, management within the fish value chain, and upkeep of fish processing machinery.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise every phase to assist beneficiaries in enhancing their operations within fish value chains. In more detail, this encompasses actions associated with product creation, ensuring food safety in the fish value chain, and enhancing capabilities through training on the use, management, and upkeep of fish processing equipment.
- Collaborate with the Fisheries Commission to establish a procurement strategy that aids beneficiaries in enhancing their operations.
- In collaboration with technical support from the Fisheries Division at FAO Headquarters (NFIMF), prepare and provide all necessary documents for procuring items aimed at enhancing the activities of project beneficiaries to boost food safety.
- In collaboration with the Fisheries Commission, distribute the purchased items and provide training on their use, management, and upkeep.
Work together with the Fisheries Commission to develop a training plan focused on business, marketing, and organizational management, and to conduct the training for fish processors who will provide fish to schools.
- Utilize technical assistance from the Fisheries Division at FAO Headquarters (NFIMF) to guarantee that all important performance indicators outlined in the agreement are achieved.
- Assist and oversee CSRI – FRI as necessary to guarantee prompt execution of all tasks outlined in the agreement with CSRI – FRI. These comprise launching a project task force, collaborating with national stakeholders, providing support during activities like roundtable discussions with national stakeholders, training on food safety, roundtable discussions with supply chain participants, and conducting follow-up/step-down training sessions at processing sites.
- Collaborate with the HQ team to examine and confirm training materials and plans, along with other documents provided by FRI.
- Communicate with HQ-Fisheries Division (NFIMF) about the status of all activities.
- Organize and oversee tasks for the pilot (integration of fish into the school menu for 3.5 months).
- Assist and oversee CSRI – FRI as required in starting and executing the pilot. These encompass assistance with ethical clearance applications, coordination with national stakeholders, identification and communication with supply chain participants (caterers, local mill owners, and other third parties), selection of appropriate fish products for schools, support for activities like training food handlers, and oversight of various activities.
Coordinate with the chosen schools to establish a purchasing strategy for enhancing the food environment.
- In collaboration with the Fisheries Division at FAO Headquarters (NFIMF), prepare and submit all necessary documents to acquire items for enhancing the food environment.
- Coordinate with the Fisheries Commissions, CSRI – FRI, and school meal organizations to acquire fish products for schools and to deliver these products to schools.
- Communicate with HQ Teams about the status of all tasks.
- Supervise all operations outlined in the Letter of Agreement with CSRI – FRI. In greater detail,
- Make certain that CSIR – FRI completes all tasks outlined in the agreement punctually. Hold frequent meetings to review updates on activities and address any issues with implementation.
- Serve as the FAO’s primary contact for CSRI – FRI, Fisheries Commission, and other national partners.
Help with additional tasks for the daily operations of the program.
Organize, execute, and evaluate the combined production of fish, crops, and livestock through enhanced aquaculture techniques within the initiative to boost food security and enhance the livelihoods of at-risk communities in Ghana.
CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING
Basic Qualifications
- Higher education degree in resource management, agriculture, fisheries, business administration, economics, agricultural economics, or a similar discipline.
- 3 years of proven expertise and pertinent experience in the fisheries sector, engaging multiple stakeholders, conducting policy analysis, and researching rural development.
- Proficient understanding of English
