POSITION: Senior Enterprise Database Administrator

Job Description

  • To design standards, policies, and procedures that govern the implementation, management, and support of all database systems under industry best practices.
  • Provide second-level support for all database-related issues (Oracle, MSSQL, and MySQL) during the End of Day and End of Month processes.
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide 24/7 on-call assistance for production and UAT databases.
  • Monthly database cleaning (Oracle, MSSQL, and MySQL) in the cloud and on-premises.
  • Participate in regular incident review meetings to ensure incidents are resolved promptly and minimize service interruptions.
  • Database capacity planning for future storage needs and database growth.
  • To advise and supervise, prepare, and assist with various database software implementation projects for the bank to support the business functions while guaranteeing 100% adherence to Technology’s project governance framework.
  • To assist in other ongoing initiatives in other functional units regularly, as requested by the unit or departmental head.
  • Interact with internal and external entities (such as other project teams, ITD units, user departments, external businesses, suppliers, vendors, etc.) about projects, costs, databases, software, hardware, and other topics as needed.
  • Review and recommend emerging database technology. Daily monitoring of the health status of all production databases.
  • Database Performance review and optimization Automate Database backup for all production systems.
  • Proactive planning to guarantee that sufficient space is available for data growth and that the average and peak use of memory, storage, processor, and tablespace utilization fits below the Capacity Management parameters.
  • Responsible for supporting, monitoring, and managing databases across all Ecobank affiliates.
  • Responsible for implementing any modifications to the production database and data warehouse systems, from change requests or project commencement to deployment and review.
  • Maintain documentation of production databases, standard operating policies, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely response and resolution of queries and complaints in compliance with agreed-upon SLAs.
  • To ensure that all clients of technology and their dependant stakeholders are well served and happy with the services supplied by Database Systems.
  • To avoid mistakes, ensure that all important production systems are managed using best practices and the operational handbook.
  • To guarantee that all database systems, processes, and procedures are fully documented.
  • Deliver weekly Incident and Database Growth reports by EOD on Friday.
  • Ensure that the databases underpinning fundamental banking, transactional, and non-transactional systems are always available. (24 x 7), excluding planned and allowed downtime.
  • Ensure that all weekly/monthly reports are generated with 95% correctness by the due date.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Maintain excellent visibility for all bank database infrastructure services.
  • Adherence to agreed-upon OLAs and SLAs.
  • Develop and implement the “we don’t go down” approach.
  • Ensure 99.99% uptime for database infrastructure services.
  • Time, People, and Process Management
  • Compliance with all security and audit requirements and controls.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years (production). Experienced Oracle DBA with expertise in MSSQL, MySQL, and Unix/Windows operating systems. Responsible for developing and deploying Oracle databases, including systems architecture, project management, and tuning.
  • Experience supporting various systems within the company.
  • Extensive expertise with Oracle databases (12c, 19c), MSSQL, and MySQL is essential.
  • Experience with Oracle partitioning, replication, RAC, ASM, data guard, and flashback technology is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience performing database backup and recovery using Oracle RMAN in conjunction with third-party backup systems (VERITAS NetBackup, IBM TIVOLI).
  • Working knowledge of clustering solutions (VERITAS, IBM, MICROSOFT) is an advantage.
  • Expert level expertise in SQL and database performance tuning.
  • Extensive SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix shell scripting are essential.
  • Experience with SQL Server, MySQL, and Informix databases is desirable.
  • Proven experience with ITIL Service Management.
  • Experience with web and application servers is necessary.
  • High level of expertise in documentation and report writing of technical and other information using MS Office Suite and Vision
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and presentation formats.
  • Expert/Advanced Unix Administration skills (specifically for Solaris, AIX, and Linux)
  • Proven ability to monitor, support, and manage complex systems.
  • Understanding clustering and other high availability/fault tolerance.
