POSITION: Assistant Technical Manager
ROLE OBJECTIVE
To support the Technical Manager in managing the maintenance, operation, and efficiency of earth-moving equipment. The Assistant Technical Manager will deliver practical technical assistance, assist in managing resources and equipment, guarantee adherence to safety regulations, and resolve equipment problems to boost productivity and minimize downtime.
REPORT TO: Engineering Supervisor
MAIN DUTIES
Management and Support for Equipment Maintenance
- Aid in creating and executing maintenance schedules for preventive and corrective actions on earth-moving equipment.
- Oversee and engage in the examination, maintenance, and fixing of equipment to reduce failures.
- Guarantee that equipment is used safely and effectively throughout project locations.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting
- Deliver practical technical assistance to troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Help perform root cause analysis for equipment breakdowns and aid in the execution of corrective actions.
- Work alongside project teams on choosing and implementing machinery.
Support for Teams and Enhancing Capabilities
- Assist in overseeing and coordinating technicians, operators, and mechanics.
- Engage in technical training workshops and mentorship to improve team skills.
- Help in assessing employee performance and recognizing training requirements.
Management of Inventory and Spare Components
- Assist in overseeing the availability and management of spare parts and tools.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to guarantee prompt procurement of components.
- Monitor inventory quantities to avoid delays in maintenance.
Operational Adherence and Safety
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
- Support in implementing company regulations and performing regular safety inspections.
- Encourage a culture that prioritizes safety among operational personnel.
Documentation and Reporting
- Keep precise documentation of equipment maintenance, failures, and repairs.
- Draft technical reports and provide updates to management regarding the condition of equipment.
- Lastly, suggest enhancements for the efficiency and dependability of equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a similar discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience after qualification in overseeing and sustaining heavy-duty or earth-moving equipment.
- Previous experience in the construction, mining, or dredging sectors will be a beneficial asset.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical parts of earth-moving machinery.
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools for equipment and systems for maintenance management.
- Certification in engineering or machinery operations is highly valued.

- Robust mechanical and technical troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong leadership and effective team coordination skills.
- Expertise in understanding technical guides and diagrams.
- Great focus on details and excellent organizational skills.
- Efficient communication and social skills.
- Capability to perform under stress and in distant project sites.
- Skills in Microsoft Office and software maintenance tools.
