POSITION: Area Manager

Our objective is to deliver responsible financial services at the bottom of the pyramid. BGSL is a subsidiary of BRAC International Holdings B.V. (BIHBV), which works in seven countries spanning Africa and Asia.
PURPOSE: Oversee all MF activities in an area.
Job Description
- Major responsibilities include weekly branch visits to all branches in the area.
- Visit at least one group and reconcile passbooks as you visit each branch.
- Branch Manager and provide relevant suggestions for revisions. If serious abnormalities are discovered, s/he should take immediate action.
- Visit at least three current and three late overdue borrowers to guarantee that overdue payments are collected from defaulting clients.
- Analyze trend reports and provide input to BM.
- Review audit and monitoring reports and order BM to prevent abnormalities from recurring.
- Review target and achievement reports and devise a strategy to meet the target.
- Write observations, comments, and feedback in the feedback register, and instruct BM to follow up on those suggestions.
- Ensure that Credit Officers and BMs follow up on the recovery of written-off loans.
- Check the office documents:
- Examine admission forms, monthly meeting minutes, attendance registers, leave applications, leave registers and movement records.
- Conduct a meeting with all program workers.
- Ensure that all staff are familiar with microfinance operational processes and the MF Operational Manual.
- Every month, hold an all-staff meeting.
- Launch legal action against corrupt employees through the Legal and Compliance manager.
- Take on overall supervisory responsibilities for all programs functioning in the Area.
- Client satisfaction and outcomes management-related:
- Ensure that all MF staff follow the Microfinance Staff Code of Conduct and treat clients with respect.
- Ensure that clients receive the highest quality service, both in the field and at branch offices.
- Follow up on clients’ complaints/concerns/opinions during branch visits, taking appropriate action and recommending adjustments.
- Review the client’s poverty profile and regional targeting to confirm that it aligns with BRAC’s mission.
- Review client-level results data regularly in comparison to targets and make recommendations as needed.
Safeguarding responsibilities:
- Implement the safeguarding policy to foster a culture of safety at all levels of the programme.
- Serve as a primary source of assistance, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding to create a safe workplace.
- Responsible for ensuring that team members receive adequate training, support, and access to resources about issues detected and addressed under the safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in the event of a reportable occurrence, and encourage others to do the same.
Required Skill or Experience
- EXPERIENCE (include sector/industry): Preparing cash and bank transactions, requisitions, certificates, and reconciliation statements.
- Knowledge of the applications Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience: At least three years of experience working in a microfinance or financial institution.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Computer expertise of MS World, MS Excel, and the Internet
- Demonstrates strong communication, writing, and reporting skills in English. Has 3 years of experience as a microfinance manager.

- Degree/Masters Concentration/Major: Related Discipline
