POSITION: Mining Project Superintendent

ROLE OBJECTIVE
The objective of this position is to direct and manage the planning, coordination, and implementation of mining projects in the Mining Operations sector, guaranteeing the safe, prompt, and economical completion of infrastructure and operational efforts. This position additionally offers specialized guidance on all mining projects, guaranteeing adherence to sanctioned designs and engineering norms, along with compliance with the Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2182). The role is responsible for upholding these standards throughout all pertinent activities within the mining operations.
The Superintendent of the Mining Project will oversee the creation of detailed mining project plans and documentation to ensure all mining projects can be managed according to a specific set of established deliverables and milestones. In cases of emergencies or irregularities, the Mining Project Superintendent will quickly address problems and ensure compliance. The Mining Project Superintendent is vital in fostering a safety culture, raising hazard awareness, and ensuring strict compliance with relevant mining and legal codes and regulations in the underground setting.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate risks for each task and guarantee they are managed prior to and throughout task performance.
- Notify about all incidents and make sure they are investigated, and corrective measures are carried out promptly.
- Implement all designated corrective actions and guarantee timely fulfillment.
- Establish the essential project engineering procedures and methods for the refurbishment of the Obuasi Mine, encompassing Operational Readiness.
- Complete projects within the established budget limits and specified deadlines, expenses, and associated KPIs.
- Enhance procedures in current functional processes by identifying and resolving problems.
- Oversee mining project timelines to fulfill operational needs.
- Execute all corrective measures designated to him/her or within his/her authority and guarantee prompt fulfillment.
- Propose answers to particular issues with clear resolution strategies and the required resources to enhance efficiency in processes and procedures.
- Foresee possible issues in processes or procedures stemming from the specialist field by establishing statistical controls (alert system) and enhancing work practices, procedures, and processes.
- Improve team expertise and abilities while documenting the advancement of work programs, showcasing suitable measures to handle recognized risks.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or its equivalent.
Experience
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of demonstrated experience in mining projects within an underground mine, including a minimum of three (3) years in a senior supervisory role in a mining operation.
- Having a MINCOM Mine Captain certificate of competency is beneficial.
- Having a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is beneficial.
Technical Skills
- Extensive understanding of Mining Project methodologies and proven capability in overseeing all mining initiatives.
- Mining Project Procedures and Practices
- Broad experience and knowledge of mining project procedures/practices.
- Comprehension of effective mining project methodologies, administration, support frameworks, and the interaction among them to achieve desired performance.
- Capability to create novel technical concepts/methods related to mining activities and initiatives, and their implementation.
- Comprehensive understanding of Mining Techniques and their advantages and disadvantages, along with their suitable applications.
