Fellowships and Irish Higher Education Institutions

Every year, as part of their intake of overseas students, universities, institutes of technology, and private institutions throughout Ireland accept fellows under the Ireland Fellowship Programme. The presence of fellows increases learning possibilities and fosters an interchange of ideas across cultures and situations, which benefits both students and teaching staff, as course directors have emphasized time and time again.

Institutions are especially asked to provide information about their Master’s programs that align with the priority topics for fellowships in the months before each new application round. Then, directories including a list of all programs accepted by the Department of Foreign Affairs as qualifying for fellowship awardees are made available to candidates.

The international office of each university will often be contacted by the administering organization for the fellowship program, the Irish Council for International Students (ICOS), to compile a list of acceptable courses. Course directors are permitted to submit information to ICOS sooner if they like after consulting the listed eligibility criteria.
