International Trials Manager – EiA Ghana at IITA

Job Description
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks to recruit a International Trials Manager under the Excellence in Agronomy Initiative (EiA) – Ghana.
The Position
The International Trials Manager – EiA Ghana has the responsibility of leading in the establish a robust network to facilitate the smooth implementation, monitoring and dissemination of team activities to accelerate delivery of product profiles for EiA in the WCA Region.
Duty Station: Tamale, Ghana with some travel to project implementation sites
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The international Trials Manager – EiA Ghana will perform the following duties, among others:
- Firstly, Contribute to the overall coordination of the WCA Regional Team Members through providing research updates, upcoming events to allow for team interactions and planning at the national and regional level.
- Secondly, Offer guidance and team contributions towards scientific excellence in the Region through peer reviewed publications and present at conferences.
- Thirdly, Support working groups of the EiA Initiative in the WCA Region
- Moreover, Leverage, link, learn and build on past and ongoing projects that feed into regional efforts via strategic engagement with the NARs
- Additionally, Contribute to capacity building of research associates; supervise activities of graduate students who are involved in the EiA Initiative on areas such as research design and data analysis in a research for development context.
- Then, Support team efforts towards preparing agronomy technical materials for extension services and development partners.
- Also, Organize regular team meetings and providing summarized feedback minutes to the concerned parties in the WCA Region.
- Afterwards, Work with the Project Team to translate data into information materials for policy and scaling guidance (e.g., policy briefs, reports, presentations).
- Finally, Perform any other task as assigned by the Regional Team leader for WCA.
Required Skills or Experience
The candidate should have a finalized PhD in Agriculture/Environmental Sciences or related fields in agriculture.
Core Competencies
- Applied knowledge and experience in agricultural sciences.
- At least five years of professional experience in agronomy research with a proven analytical, quantitative and qualitative research skills (Affinity with field experience in agronomy is an advantage).
- Ability to deal with workload; capacity to work under challenging (field) conditions.
- Proven track-record of scientific publications in high quality scientific journals.
- Proactive, innovative and independent problem solver and excellent team player with good interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in effective interactions and negotiations in a multi-cultural environment.
- Experience in implementation, monitoring and reporting of research for development projects.
- Ability to work independently, in a team; with excellent communication skills, able to interact and engage meaningfully with a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary team of scientists and development partners in the project countries.
- Good understanding of climate-informed advisories concept, partnerships, networking and information dissemination.
- Very good organizational aptitudes and good negotiation experience/skills and with knowledge about the national institutional and policy environments.
- Knowledge of French is an advantage
General information: This is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position. Initial appointment is for Two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.
