POSITION: Field Supervisor – Child Labour Monitoring And Remediation System

Company Overview 

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) (www.cocoainitiative.org) is a collaborative organization that brings together civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industry, and global institutions, partnering with governments to combat child and forced labor in the cocoa sector.

ICI has created a Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) that enables industry partners to effectively address the risks of child labour in their cocoa supply chain.

Job Summary

To achieve its goals of eradicating the most severe forms of child labour and forced labour in the cocoa industry and to further its overall initiative for advancing children’s rights and ensuring child protection within the cocoa supply chain, ICI aims to recruit a Field Supervisor for the Country Office in Ghana, who will operate in one of the ICI’s designated districts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Situated at the district level, under the leadership of the Country Director and the direct oversight of the ICI Project Manager for the specified Project, the incumbent will:

Advocacy and Engagement with Stakeholders 

  • Facilitate collaboration in the field with pertinent partners.
  • Represent ICI at program and project functions and meetings as per the agreement with the Project Manager.
  • Facilitate communication between ICI in Accra, regional partners, and local government.

Project Management

  • Guarantee the implementation of tasks as per the project schedule and the adherence to project methodologies by all participants involved.
  • Guarantee uniform application of the guidelines and policies set forth by the ICI Foundation.
  • Create monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports and updates regarding project activities.
  • Engage in monthly or on-demand internal coordination meetings with ICI Accra and project partners to review project implementation status and obstacles.
  • Assistance in recording insights, effective methods, resources, and training content.
  • Guarantee the correct implementation and deployment of the CLMRS in the designated regions, particularly:
  • Oversee the operations of Partners Field Staff in executing CLMRS.
  • Training partners’ field personnel on concepts of child and forced labor and the execution of CLMRS.
  • Offer continuous technical assistance to partners’ field personnel, making certain that they meet their responsibilities.
  • Actively oversee KPIs for the area he/she is responsible for and take initiative to enhance them.
  • Assist in the establishment of Community Labour Protection Committees (CLPC) and their connections with the appropriate district authorities.
  • Observe the actions of Community Labour Protection Committees in the project areas and provide a monitoring report to the Supervisors.

Capacity Building

  • Provide refresher sessions for partners, support for field staff, and community-focused awareness programs on child labor and forced labor.
  • Provide guidance on corrective measures and monitor the execution of remedial actions.
  • Make certain that every farmer involved in the CLMRS projects comprehends and signs the consent form.

Assistance with missions and additional responsibilities 

  • Assist in coordinating ICI missions and visits to project locations.
  • Carry out any additional tasks and fulfill other responsibilities as requested by the Supply Chain Project Manager and approved by the Deputy Country Director/Programme Coordinator.
  • Coordinate the logistics for the field visits of ICI personnel from Accra and Geneva or industry collaborators.

Required Education or Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology/Child Development, Social Sciences, or another pertinent field, combined with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, training, and project management.
  • Preparation of reports and documentation of knowledge.
  • Experience in engaging at sub-national and community tiers.
  • Capability to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Unblemished conduct and dedication to safeguarding children while honoring their rights.

Desirable

  • Women are highly encouraged to submit their applications.
  • Understanding of child safeguarding and/or child labour
  • Capacity to build strong working relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Capable of performing under stress, highly organized, with a keen focus on details.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively across cultures, involving team members as well as individuals located in different countries.
  • Capability to operate a motorcycle with a legitimate riding permit.

Languages 

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English, as well as a Ghanaian language, ideally Twi.

Required Skills

  • Strong and straightforward written and spoken communication abilities in English.
  • Outstanding interpersonal abilities.
  • Outstanding skills in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
