Context/Scope

  • GGBL maintains two locations and distributes four types of beverages: stout, lager, RTD, and malt, as well as spirits. The company is Ghana’s largest brewer, accounting for around 75% of the market.
  • In a driven environment, economic growth in Ghana is expected to remain in the mid to high single digits.
  • Consumers in this region anticipate high-quality products. There is also a growing middle class that is willing to try new things.
  • GGBL is undergoing major change, particularly in terms of accountability, quality maintenance standards, supply planning, cost reduction, and efficiency. In accordance with its aims, GGBL will develop its employees and create an atmosphere that attracts and maintains the best talent.
  • As the Supply function, we will produce high-quality items in a safe environment at cost-effective rates, on schedule, and without faults.
  • This position is critical to the GGBL Supply Leadership Team and is required for optimal Brewery Operations.
  • The post holder will need to develop, support, and implement specific plans to meet standards.

The Purpose of the Role

Ensure that the production unit operates efficiently within the approved operational budget and governance, with the goal of meeting agreed-upon targets for product availability, product quality, equipment availability and maintenance, personnel training, safety/health, and the environment.

Top Accountabilities

  • Contribute to workplace health and safety requirements. Frequently say and articulate that safety is our top priority. Be a transparent ambassador for safety by always behaving safely and constantly criticizing others’ unsafe methods and behaviour, reprimanding if needed. Follow the site’s safety guidelines, as well as the operational protocols for systems and equipment.
  • Set the agenda for the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Improve efficiency on-site by implementing effective asset care systems and practices:
  • Ensure that engineering requirements are met for new equipment and installations.
  • Developing measures and essential KPIs to guarantee that improvement strategies are implemented.
  • Manage the asset care budget and give comments on the capital budget. Allocate the R&M money to Operations Managers.
  • Facilitate all Engineering Capex projects on the site.
  • Create utility usage improvement programs based on specific energy performance metrics.
  • Ensure that all outsourced activity is adequately managed through the performance management framework and recorded in Diageo CMMS systems (e.g., SAP PM). Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental, quality, cost, and reliability criteria are fulfilled, as well as driving on-site compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Mentor team members to identify areas of underperformance and prepare accident/incident reports at a level that allows for learning and root cause determination.
  • Role model and mentor reports on the application of systemic problem-solving methods in the department. Participate in the T3 Daily Operations Review.
  • Provide expertise and coaching to help with strategic problem-solving difficulties. Provide 100% P4G talks and personal development plans for all team members (both technical and behavioural competencies) to ensure the growth of maintenance competence in specialized and asset care teams.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Equivalent qualifications in Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Electrical Engineering
  • Other technical qualifications may be acceptable with relevant engineering managerial experience in FMCG manufacturing. Chartered Engineer status or similar is preferred. NEBOSH certification is also an option.

Experience (Crucial)

  • A professional engineer with experience gained through a variety of tasks.
  • Proven technical competence to manage in a sophisticated setting, providing realistic solutions.
  • Management of engineering projects and conventional maintenance processes
  • Proven track record at leading and managing people. Performance, mentorship, and growth of a multidisciplinary team of up to 25 people.
  • Sound and proven financial savvy.
  • Proactive systematic problem evaluation and solving skills acquired through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or manufacturing excellence.
  • Proficient at using typical business software (MS Office) and Diageo packages.

Desirable/Developed In Role

  • SAP (or MRP systems), Scheduled Maintenance, Environmental, and Quality systems
  • Knowledge of local health, safety, and environmental rules and controls, for example. COMAH:

Barriers to Success in Role

  • Inability to communicate and form positive relationships.
  • A lack of grasp of the commercial and demand agenda within the company.
