POSITION: Women & Youth Specialist
Program Summary:
Utilizing Agricultural Productivity and Wealth for Youth (HAPPY) is an initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation, featuring nine consortium partners in its implementation, among them Technoserve. The initiative seeks to promote shared wealth in Ghana by establishing, maintaining, or enhancing respectable employment and boosting agricultural output throughout the poultry, rice, soy, and tomato supply chains.
HAPPY aims to close the productivity gaps in these four value chains by establishing robust food systems led by youth and women. The initiative will leverage the capabilities of young men and women to improve the sourcing and business strategies of off-takers, seek out innovative entrepreneurial opportunities, aid in adopting better practices and inputs, and shape the enabling environment by amplifying their voices. The outcome will be a more thriving and inclusive agricultural industry that drives development throughout the nation.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Offer technical support to a range of TechnoServe initiatives within the HAPPY program.
- Recognize, cultivate, and facilitate the implementation of gender-responsive initiatives to address the needs of participants.
- Assist in developing local capacity among project personnel for integrating gender and youth, and coordinate training for staff on gender and youth issues.
- Offer assistance to implement TTT for personnel on training and workshop modules centered on gender and youth issues.
- Aids in the execution and oversight of gender action plans.
- Facilitates the tracking of gender and youth integration in activities and their inclusion in program reports.
- Aids in reporting on issues concerning gender and youth.
- Assist in creating essential knowledge products (e.g., case studies, lessons-learned reports, etc.) that aid in program development, execution, and internal knowledge exchange.
- Attend frequent meetings with the Global Practice for Women and Youth.
- Join the Gender Champions Network.
- Work together with team members to guarantee the effective execution of HAPPY.
- Perform additional tasks as directed to promote gender integration within TechnoServe.
Essential Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree accompanied by 3 years of experience or a Master’s degree in development economics, sociology, anthropology, gender, or another pertinent field with a minimum of 1 year’s experience.
- Proven experience applying practical strategies to promote gender equality in agricultural initiatives; experience with gender equality and youth programming in agricultural programs is highly desirable.
- Knowledgeable in adult education methods, proficient in both in-person and virtual facilitation abilities.
- Should be capable of collaborating with various teams to affect behavior and enhance capacity.
- Capability to engage both convincingly and tactfully within a team-oriented setting characterized by significant complexity and uncertainty.
- Skill to convey intricate gender matters with clarity and accuracy.
- Proven ability to oversee tasks, projects, or initiatives needing a blend of robust analytical, writing, interpersonal, and managerial skills.
- A strong, clear dedication to gender equality and the economic empowerment of women.
- Experience in applying strategies to lessen and minimize gender-based violence within economic growth initiatives is advantageous.
- A strong sense of personal integrity and a relaxed, adaptable demeanor paired with a great sense of humor are essential.
Necessary Languages: Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal abilities, with proficiency in English (comparable to R4/S4).
Travel: As much as 30% travel to project sites and field offices.
