POSITION: Cooperative Managers (Cocoa)

Job Description
- Location: Ashanti and Western North, 15 districts
- Position Type: Full-time, one-year contract (may be renewed based on performance and funding)
- Reports To: Board of Directors / Interim Management Committee (IMC)
Job Summary
The main goal of this position is to make sure the Cooperative Office runs well and to help successfully implement income-generating activities (IGA) for the Cooperative. The Cocoa Cooperative Manager will manage daily operations, promote sustainable practices, increase productivity, and build good relationships with farmers and other stakeholders.
This role needs an active leader who understands the cocoa and IGA industries, cooperative management, and rural development. The manager will also oversee other staff to ensure their tasks are done effectively. Strong collaboration with local government bodies and departments like the Department of Cooperatives and Agriculture is essential.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Leadership and Management:
- Lead the cooperative’s operations to meet goals.
- Create and carry out plans that fit the cooperative’s mission.
- Supervise and support staff to ensure good teamwork.
Operational Oversight:
- Set up and manage the cooperative office.
- Work with the IMC and SOCODEVI to ensure the office functions well.
- Ensure all necessary tools for running the cooperative are available and in use.
- Make sure that the IGA starts successfully.
- Keep accurate records of activities and IGAs.
- Ensure quality standards and sustainable farming practices are followed.
- Manage the cooperative’s finances wisely.
- Organize training programs for cooperative members.
- Prepare for annual meetings and audits.
- Support the cooperative in promoting and selling its IGAs.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Help manage relationships with stakeholders like the Department of Cooperatives and Ghana Cocoa Board.
- Set up communication systems between the cooperative, communities, and government officials.
- Build strong relationships with farmers and buyers.
- Then, represent the cooperative at industry meetings.
Sustainability and Development:
- Encourage sustainable practices among members.
- Drive initiatives to improve farmers’ lives and their communities.
- Find opportunities for growth in the cooperative’s activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Community Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in agricultural management, cooperative management, or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of the cocoa industry and supply chain in Ghana.
- Understanding of the IGA sector chosen by the cooperative.
- Experience in financial management and budgeting.
- Familiarity with the cooperative movement in Ghana.
- Marketing and sales experience.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Good English speaking and writing skills, plus the ability to speak Twi.
- Ability to work well with diverse groups, including farmers and government officials.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to adapt and handle multiple tasks.
- Willingness to travel to communities.
Office Locations: Candidates living near the specified locations will be preferred.
