Job Description
- Location: Accra, Ghana.
- Number of positions: 1
- Position Status: one year (renewable), with a three-month probation.
- Hours: Eight hours every day

The Peace through Evaluation, Learning, and Adaptation Activity II (PELA II) is a USAID-funded five-year (2022-2027) project run by Khulisa Management Services Inc. and supervised by the USAID/West Africa Regional Peace and Governance Office. PELA II provides targeted monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) services to USAID/WA, its implementing partners (IPs), and regional stakeholders in accordance with the Mission’s Regional Development Objective 1 (RDO-1) of “Democracy, Peace, and Stability Enhanced.”
PELA II is primarily concerned with providing necessary and relevant information, communication, and thought leadership to improve USAID/WA’s effectiveness in implementing projects, coordinating activities, learning from evidence-based experiences, and designing programs for conflict prevention, peace promotion, and preventing or countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in West Africa.
To effectively carry out its objective of improving USAID/WA’s efficacy at CVE and promoting peace, PELA II wants energetic, self-motivated professionals to aid the team’s communications activities. The Communications Assistant will help the Communications and Outreach Manager in carrying out organizational communications in accordance with the authorized PELA II work plans, as well as reacting to additional internal needs. The Communications Assistant will work independently and collaboratively to achieve organizational goals and initiatives relating to programming and events.
Responsibilities
- Support the creation of publications such as progress reports, work plans, technical reports, success stories, films, meeting notes, factsheets, brochures, posters, and event reports.
- Help with content development for USAID and Khulisa’s social media pages.
- Help with content production for International Observance Days.
- Support the review and refinement of draft reports, technical papers, and other communication items.
- As needed, assist in conducting field visits and documenting success stories using interviews, short videos, photos, or other applicable data-collection techniques.
- Assist with visibility for PELA II among stakeholders.
- Assist with PowerPoint presentations.
- Other related duties as assigned
Required Skill or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, public relations, or another discipline connected to international development.
- At least three years of professional experience in communication with national or international organizations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and other photo/video editing tools.
- Proficiency in English and French verbal/written skills.
- A thorough awareness of strategic communication ideas and a strong desire to create compelling communication products.
- Proven experience in media communications, including social media.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to operate successfully both independently and in a team.
- Interest in the realm of development, particularly communication and branding.
- Demonstrated multitasking and organizing skills.
- Ability to adjust to new surroundings and establish/maintain strong working relationships with people from various cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrates discretion with confidential and sensitive material, as well as strong attention to detail.
