POSITION: Senior Software Engineer
Dondo.ai is a visionary project that aims to onboard the next billion internet users in their local language, with an emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. Our initial launch will focus on the Akan language, with ambitions to expand to other indigenous languages of the region. Our 2023 research program, with a focus on African women, aims to investigate how language technology may help Africans earn money, access crucial services, and find fun and spiritual enlightenment.
Job Description:
We are looking for a competent Lead Software Engineer with experience in Ruby on Rails and React to help us build a game-changing survey platform on WhatsApp. This role is crucial in providing an inclusive digital arena for Ghanaians, allowing them to share their experiences dealing with English literacy obstacles in the digital age.
Technical Qualifications:
- Strong familiarity with Ruby on Rails or other high-level programming languages such as PHP, C++, etc.
- Expertise in front-end development with JavaScript.
- Proficient in test-driven development.
- Skilled in API integration and programming, particularly for WhatsApp.
- Familiarity with Twilio deployment is advantageous.
- At least two years of industry experience.
Additional Qualifications:
- Passionate about internet accessibility and Ghanaian culture.
- Eagerness to work in a transformational startup atmosphere.
- Excellent communication abilities, able to address both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent teamwork and independent project management skills.
Key project milestones:
- Referral Infrastructure: Launching the multimedia survey and referral platform on WhatsApp.
- Survey Infrastructure: Create a multilingual survey (English and indigenous languages) that is accessible via WhatsApp, including voice capability and third-party connectors.
- Incentives Infrastructure: MTN Mobile Money Payment has been integrated to compensate participants.
- Analysis Infrastructure: Created backend infrastructure for transcription, response coding, and analytics projection on a dashboard for data analysts.
- Conduct testing and iterations for each project step, collaborating closely with a UX designer to get user feedback.
