Engineering Manager – Fleet at AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited’s Obuasi Gold Mine is almost done with the redevelopment phase, which will make it more modern, efficient, and long-term success. The underground mining process is fully automated and is set up to mine an average of 5,000 t of ore per day.

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The Engineering Manager – Fleet is responsible for coming up with and putting into place site-wide fleet maintenance and workshop services, as well as other production-related equipment. This is done by applying operational engineering policies, standards, systems, and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable, cost-effective way and minimize operational risks to meet the business’s strategic goal.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Handle the parts of the Safety Management Plan that fall under the job holder’s control.
• Give management your expert advice on how to create a safety management plan that meets AGA’s standards
• Look at how the safety rules and work practices for the area are being used.
• Follow the HSE rules and don’t let anyone break them.
• Act in a way that is safe and is in line with AGAG’s goal and values.
• Set a good example to make a safe place to work where risks are evaluated and dealt with so that tasks can be done without anyone getting hurt.
• Make sure the structure of the organization can carry out the maintenance plan.
• Share policies and methods in a way that makes sure everyone understands them and follows them
• Make sure that the work done by the maintenance team meets the operational needs of the tools and costs as little as possible.
• Find bad work practices and take steps to get rid of them. Find out why these bad work practices are happening.
• Give tasks to direct reports so that the agreed-upon output plan can be met.
• Lead a team of engineers to specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems.
• Make a budget for the area that supports the company’s goals and plans.
• Make sure that the effects on costs in the area of accountability are looked at, and accepted, and the budget is changed.
• Find, talk about, and put into action possible ways to cut costs.
• Run the department in line with the budget for operations.
• Oversee and witness inspections and testing regimes to ensure quality and or performance is in line with obligations and expectations.
• Proactively identify and manage change to avoid potential cost, schedule, and quality issues.

Needed Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent
• Masters’ Degree in Management will be a plus
• Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses.

Experience

Experienced in managing Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC), Project Management, Contractor Management, and has a good understanding of the SAP PM module.

Legal Requirement

• Must possess Engineering Managers Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
• Professional Certificated Engineer from GhIE (As stated in Ghana Engineering Council Act 2011, Act 819).

Technical Competencies

• Strong maintenance competencies in underground fixed plants and mobile equipment
• Sound project management skills
• Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
• Detail-oriented to understand complex systems, and recognize that a minor error can cause major problems.
• Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties.
• Legally astute with respect to project delivery and maintenance systems.
