AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited’s Obuasi Gold Mine is almost done with the redevelopment phase, which will make it more modern, efficient, and long-term profitable. The underground mining operation is fully automated and is set up to mine an average of 5,000 t of ore per day.
We’re looking for self-starters with experience to join our team as: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
ROLE/REASON
- The Economic Development Officer will help the Economic Development Superintendent come up with and carry out sustainable economic development programs that are in line with the existing Socio-Economic Development Plans of the Obuasi Mine and are based on the Sustainable Development Goals, the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, and the National and Local Development Plans. These programs will help to diversify the economy of Obuasi and, as a result, keep the community safe in the long run.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Figure out what the risks are for each task and make sure they are controlled before and while the task is being done.
- Report all problems and make sure they have been looked into and that the right steps have been taken on time.
- Do all the corrective actions that have been given to you or that fall under your responsibility, and make sure they are done on time.
- Follow the environmental work rules set by the department manager.
- Look into environmental incidents in assigned work areas.
- Go to all environmental training meetings that are scheduled and assigned.
- Make sure the AGA Community Investment Procedure is followed.
- Run, track, and evaluate effective Enterprise Development programs based on needs in collaboration with relevant institutions and partners.
- Run, track, and evaluate effective Agriculture Development programs based on needs in collaboration with relevant institutions and partners.
- Put Business and Trade Promotion actions into place, keep an eye on them, and evaluate them with the help of relevant institutions and stakeholders.
- Put in place, track, and evaluate effective Livelihood Restoration Programs based on needs in collaboration with relevant institutions and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant degree from a college or university in the field of business development
Experience
- At least three years of work experience in the same field
Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience with putting economic and business development programs and projects into action in a mining setting;
- Knowledge of SDGs and ESG and how to use them in program development;
- Knowledge of internationally applicable standards related to sustainable development (IFC standards on Social Sustainability, VPSHR, GEITI etc.)
- A good understanding of how community investment is driven by shared value
Some other skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Knowledge of the MMDAs’ development planning process
- Then, Good knowledge of national enterprise development programs and policies
- Practical experience in agribusiness
- Also, Practical experience in the SME sector
- Ability to work in a team
