POSITION: Higher Education Marketing Specialist Consultant (South Africa/Ghana)

Role Purpose

The British Council in Sub-Saharan Africa is now looking for a Higher Education Marketing Consultant to assist with the implementation of our comprehensive Higher Education marketing plan. This critical function focuses on the promotion of our different Higher Education programmes and offerings, with a particular emphasis on successfully expressing their impact.

The incumbent’s responsibilities will include not only drawing and engaging audiences, but also raising awareness of our programmes, boosting attendance, and encouraging online interaction.

Consultancy objectives

  • Ensure that the British Council can market the portfolio’s Higher Education programmes on schedule in the specified countries.
  • Ensure that up-to-date program content is available online and on social media across countries.
  • Increase lead generation and participation in relevant Higher Education programmes and events, either in person or online.
  • Increase awareness and enthusiasm in Higher Education programmes throughout SSA.
  • Increase involvement for HE in SSA both offline and on all social media channels.

Key Consulting Services

The Consultant is expected to provide the following services:

  • The Consultant will assist the Senior Marketing Manager, Higher Education in developing and implementing marketing plans for HE in the cluster/country, ensuring that they drive and support the British Council’s regional strategic objectives in a flexible and cost-effective manner.
  • Plans and implements go-to-market strategies for English across the cluster/country, including program design, delivery mechanisms, finances, and resources.
  • Creates and executes campaigns to support a variety of marketing channels while maximising effect and share of voice.
  • Implements the British Council brand architecture in accordance with brand management principles throughout the cluster.
  • Ensures that English marketing processes are clear and consistent, in line with agreed-upon worldwide marketing processes.
  • Monitors and reports on agreed-upon marketing KPIs for English across the cluster.
  • Provides proactive professional advice and support to colleagues to ensure that local English-specific requirements are consistent with marketing policy, method, and governance.
  • Ensure the creation of high-quality and effective English marketing plans and solutions by using and sharing their marketing skills.
  • Proactively pursues an annual cycle of formally recognized Continuing Professional Development to maintain and expand their professional knowledge.
  • Budget management for English marketing plans and initiatives is supported by the use of agreed-upon corporate systems and processes.
  • Conducts monthly and annual progress reports on plan and deliverables, budget, and issue and risk management.
  • Creates peer/personal networks within and outside of Marketing to expand individual knowledge and competence.
  • Proactively develops and maintains strong relationships with internal partners and stakeholders to ensure that approaches are integrated, joined up, and future-proof.
  • Plans and prioritises own work tasks to ensure the effective delivery of marketing operations for the country on a quarterly to annual basis.
  • Shares intelligence, experience, and ideas with the Senior Marketing Manager to help him identify/develop innovative ways for marketing to improve the British Council’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Role-specific knowledge and experience:

  • Experience in a national marketing position for a medium to big business.
  • Demonstrated experience designing marketing strategy and plans.
  • Demonstrable experience managing supplier relationships.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Management
  • Experience working in a worldwide organization is desirable.
  • Experience in a relevant field or industry, such as education or English teaching, is desirable.
  • Relevant degree, such as marketing, or a comparable amount of experience.
  • Proficiency Relevant external professional organizations, such as CIM, Meldrum, GCN, CIPR, and WOMMA (or similar expertise in a relevant discipline). (Desirable)
  • Excellent English writing skills are essential.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to edit and proofread information for clarity, grammar, and consistency are essential.
  • Proficiency with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media insights)
  • Excellent understanding of marketing principles such as branding, target audience segmentation, and the customer journey.

Additional information.

Contract Duration: 12 months (the contract is renewed, subject to acceptable performance and mutual agreement).

Location: South Africa or Ghana.

The role holder must already have the right to reside and work in the country being applied for.

Language qualifications include fluency in both written and spoken English.
