About the role:

BRAC International (BI) is looking for a Chief Finance Officer in Ghana, Accra who is aligned with its mission of collaborating with communities to generate change at scale.

The CFO will lead and oversee all financial activities for BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd., as well as develop financial strategies to support and assure the institution’s overall performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create a structure and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports to all key stakeholders under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), ensuring that all financial actions are appropriately approved, recorded, and documented.
  • Review the financial reporting and give the CEO with necessary reports as needed at board meetings to ensure correctness.
  • Review and drive BRAC Ghana’s yearly audit, and report the findings to the board of directors to guarantee adherence.
  • Discuss audit issues with auditors and follow up with management on implementation by collaborating closely with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Create and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management and petty cash for BRAC Ghana to reduce financial risk; analyse financial changes in the environment and advise management accordingly.
  • Develop and implement BRAC Ghana’s internal financial and accounting policies and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Establish criteria for budget and forecast preparation, engage with the CEO on the yearly budget, and plan for budget implementation for BRAC Ghana.
  • Monitor all necessary legislation and professional certification regulations to ensure that the institution complies.
  • Review donor funds’ financial reports, attend donor/lender meetings, and take the required actions to implement the financial recommendations.
  • To ensure efficient financial management, review and execute BRAC Ghana’s finance and accounting module, as well as strategize, organize, direct, and control overall financial activities.
  • Lead, coach, and guide staff in technical competence, management, and soft skills, as needed, to improve capabilities and meet expectations.

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • Implement the safeguarding policy to foster a culture of safety at all levels of the programme. Serve as a primary source of assistance, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding to create a safe workplace.
  • Responsible for ensuring that team members receive adequate training, support, and access to resources about issues detected and addressed under the safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in the event of a reportable occurrence, and encourage others to do the same.

Academic Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.

Required Competencies:

  • Financial performance assessment, reporting, and accounting.
  • Financial system installation and development.
  • Project budgeting and cost control.
  • Audit and compliance.
  • Financial management skills.
  • Internal control assessment.
  • Fraud detection and control.

Experience requirements:

  • At least ten years of relevant work experience, with five of those years spent in senior management in a related capacity.
  • Experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
  • Experience managing complicated accounting and finance systems, including reporting, budgeting, auditing, and compliance, in an international non-governmental organization with multiple country orientations.
