Berkeley’s 2023/24 Mastercard Foundation African Scholar Program
Berkeley’s Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program 2024 is currently accepting applications from appropriately qualified individuals from nations in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program’s goal is to fund the postgraduate studies of African students attending UC Berkeley in the United States of America.
The Center for African Studies and the Mastercard Foundation have entered into a collaboration that will last for ten years and will provide financial assistance to 108 master’s degree students from Sub-Saharan African countries. These students are exceptionally gifted academically and are dedicated to effecting transformative change on the continent.
Details Regarding the Mastercard Foundation African Scholar Program for the 2023–2024 Academic Year at Berkeley
- Sponsor: The Center for African Studies and the Mastercard Foundation are proud to sponsor this scholarship.
- Type of Scholarship: Funding Provided in Full
- Host Institution: The University of California, Berkeley, will serve as the host institution.
- Study Level: The level of study is postgraduate (or master’s).
- Eligible Nationality: Africans are the only eligible nationality.
Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must demonstrate that they satisfy each of the following criteria in order to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program at the University of California, Berkeley:
Being a citizen of a country located in sub-Saharan Africa includes the following:
This covers Africans who are either refugees or displaced within their own continent but are still considered to be African. This scholarship is not open to people who are citizens of nations located in North Africa. Ineligible applicants include those who hold dual citizenship, asylum, refugee, or permanent resident status in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the European Union.
Having a talent for academics:
To be eligible for consideration for the scholarship, each and every potential recipient must first be accepted into a master’s degree program at UC Berkeley. Academic prowess must be proven as one of the applicant’s strengths in order to be considered for admission to the university.
Having demonstrated potential for leadership:
The program is looking for people who are dedicated to developing the abilities and mentalities associated with transformative leadership, which can be defined as leadership that involves other people in an ethical manner to achieve meaningful and sustainable change.
Coming from a family that is low-income or otherwise disadvantaged socioeconomically:
This scholarship is intended for exceptionally gifted individuals who might not otherwise have the financial means to continue their education at a reputable institution.
Having provided evidence that you are dedicated to giving something back to your neighborhood, nation, or continent:
pupils who are well-rounded and are actively involved in activities outside of the classroom. Some may be directly relevant to the field in which you are currently pursuing your education, but this may also include other topics (social, economic, or political) that you are working on and are passionate about. Both the applicant’s UC Berkeley application and the scholarship application should provide detailed descriptions of the applicant’s prior accomplishments and contributions.
Considering that you have previously stated both the wish and the intention to go back to your own country once you have finished your education:
Students who are actively involved in and passionate about issues that are affecting their communities and who intend to make use of their education at UC Berkeley to better equip themselves with the information and training necessary to solve these concerns once they have returned home.
Application Guidelines:
Before being considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars School 2024, interested applicants for Berkeley’s Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program 2024 must first submit an application to a graduate school. Only then will they be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. Applicants must first submit an application for admission into a program at Berkeley that meets the criteria before moving on to submit an application for a UC Berkeley Mastercard Foundation program.
The deadline for the submission of applications varies with each program.
