Job Title: OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

An organization that wants to make sure that men and women have the same rights and opportunities is looking for someone to fill the job of Operations Director. This person will be in charge of leading the organization’s growth and making sure that its key interventions, programs, projects, and services are carried out.

The organization does study, training, and advocacy work in the areas of Trade, Governance, Media, and Gender for both the private and public sectors.

Job Description

We are looking for a person to fill the job of Operations Director. This person will be in charge of the organization’s strategic planning, leadership, and management in collaboration with the Board. The OD will be in charge of key tasks connected to developing and implementing programs, raising money, building partnerships, and running the organization.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Operations Director is in charge of the following:

How to Lead Strategically

  • Helps the Board of Directors come up with a goal and a plan for the organization to follow.
  • Starts and plans the execution and review of programs, projects, and services in line with the organization’s goals, strategy, financial capacity, and legal/contractual agreements.
  • Finds and evaluates strategic areas and chances for working together, forming partnerships, or growing or shrinking a program.
  • Keeps making new connections and agreements in Ghana and around the world that support the organization’s goals and vision.
  • Represents the organization and carries out a set of programs and strategies to boost the image of the organization.
  • Helps build, manage, and support a strong and diverse Board of Directors. Serves as an ex-officio member of the full Board and its committees and gives the Board the tools it needs to do its job.

Planning and running operations

  • Create an operational plan with goals and objectives that help the organization move in the direction of its strategic path.
  • Watch over the organization’s day-to-day operations and make sure they are running smoothly and well.
  • Make sure that the organization works the way its clients, Board, and Funders want it to.
  • Draft policies for the Board to approve and come up with ways to put those policies into action.
  • Review current policies every year and suggest changes to the Board as needed.
  • Make sure that the organization’s programs and services are in line with its mission and represent the Board’s priorities.
  • Oversee how the organization’s programs and services are planned, put into action, and evaluated.
  • Watch over how special projects are planned, carried out, and evaluated.

Taking care of programs and people

  • Gives direction to staff and partners so that the organization’s plans, projects, and activities can be carried out well. This includes hiring, evaluating, training, changing staff and/or jobs and responsibilities, promotions, salaries and benefits, and other things like thinking about equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and resolving conflicts.
  • Then, LeadAlso by creating a work setting that is positive, encouraging, and professional, and puts open communication first.
  • With the goal of building a strong brand, the Operations Director improves and increases all parts of communication, from the website to publications to relationships with outside groups.
  • They also come up with good ways to keep track of progress and review programs on a regular basis so that successes can be measured and shared with the Board, funders, and other groups.

Planning and running finances

  • Help make a full budget with the help of workers and the Board.
  • Then, Work with the Board to make sure the group has enough money to run.
  • Also, Find funding sources, oversee the creation of plans to raise money, and write funding proposals to help the group get more money.
  • As needed, take part in events to raise money.
  • Moreover, Approve spending up to the limit of what the Board has given you permission to do.
  • Additionally, Make sure that good financial and bookkeeping practices are used.
  • Manage the organization’s money based on the budget that has been cleared and keep an eye on how much money the organization brings in each month.
  • Give the Board full and regular reports on how much money the group makes and how much it spends.
  • Lastly, Make sure the group follows all laws about taxes, reporting financial information, and withholding payments.

Relations with the community/advocacy

  • Communicate with stakeholders to keep them up to date on what the organization is doing and to find out if there have been any changes in the group of stakeholders the organization serves.
  • Also, Set up good working ties and ways for community groups, funders, politicians, the media, and other organizations to work together to help the organization reach its goals.

Show that you care about your business

  • Always act in a way that fits with what the organization stands for.
  • Follow the standards of behavior and all rules and laws that apply.

Skills or Experience Needed

Education

  • Master’s or PhD in a related area, such as law, gender studies, human resources, development studies, marketing, media and communications, management, leadership, or equivalent experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in a related area, such as law, gender, human resources, development, marketing, media and communications, management, or leadership, or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of experience managing projects in NGOs, IGOs, academics, the government, or businesses.
  • 2 or more years as a leader or senior manager.
  • Thinks about variety, fairness, inclusion, and justice in all parts of work.
  • Proven financial success with public and private funders from all over the world.
  • Excellent at thinking about systems, and able to make connections between different kinds of problems.
  • Ability to build and keep different networks or coalitions, especially between colleges, government agencies, funders, corporations, IGOs, and NGOs.
  • Experience running the funds of a non-profit.
  • Excellent skills at talking to people, writing, and reading.
  • Experience with M&E and reporting on effects is a plus.
  • Experience making strategic plans and putting them into action at a high or moderate level in a company.
  • Learn how to work with different interest groups.
  • Strong background in research, very analytical, and able to handle and understand data.
  • Ability to guide or change sets of numeric and qualitative data into reports and images that get people’s attention.
  • Experience with collecting and building relationships with donors, both small and big.
  • Capable of working on their own and as part of a team, and able to handle their workload by delegating tasks in the right way.
  • Integrity, credibility, and a strong commitment to the goal of Gender Equality are important personal traits.
  • Works well with people from different backgrounds and roles.
  • Know Word and Excel like the back of your hand.
