Alberta Opportunity Stream Applications Paused: Focus Shifts to Priority Sectors | Canada Immigration Update

Alberta discontinued the Alberta Opportunity Stream for new PNP streams in tourism and hospitality. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has ceased the processing of applications for the aforementioned stream. AAIP took on this endeavor to combat current inventories while also addressing other significant problems. The restricted alternatives for immigration nominations will now focus on high-demand industries such as healthcare, construction, technology, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.

This temporary stop became effective on February 15. However, the province will review any applications submitted through the Alberta Opportunity Stream before February 15. Furthermore, it will launch new initiatives to address rising application demand in the near future. Alberta will be able to process submissions within the regular period and based on program objectives.

AAIP’s Alberta Opportunity Stream focuses on temporary foreign workers who work full-time in Alberta. They also have real and valid Canadian work permits and a full-time job offer from Alberta’s employer. Candidates with a post-graduate work permit may qualify for this stream.

Addressing Program Priorities

The delay in processing will allow Alberta to evaluate its present inventory and strategically allocate resources to fulfill the demands of key industries. Applications filed prior to February 15 will continue to be considered, while measures will be implemented to manage future application volumes in accordance with program priorities, guaranteeing reasonable service standards across all AAIP streams.

Overview of the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream of the AAIP is intended for temporary foreign workers currently employed full-time in the province with a valid Canadian work permit and a full-time job offer from an Alberta company. Additionally, Post-Graduation Work Permit holders may be eligible for this stream, allowing talented individuals to contribute to Alberta’s workforce and economy.

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is an economic immigration program that nominates individuals for permanent residency in Alberta. Nominees must have the ability to fill job shortages or intend to buy or start a business in Alberta. They must also be able to support their families. Canada’s and Alberta’s governments are in charge of managing the program.

If you are nominated under the program, you can apply for permanent residency alongside your spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children.

Applications for permanent residence are managed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. The federal government makes final judgments on these applications.

Launch of New PNP Stream for Tourism and Hospitality

The AAIP is about to launch a new stream for persons who have recently completed six months of work in the tourist or hospitality industries. Beginning March 1, the AAIP will offer a new stream aimed at individuals who have worked in the tourist and hospitality sectors for at least six months and meet the requirements for permanent residency in Alberta. In addition, they must meet the qualifying requirements to establish themselves in the province.

Furthermore, candidates must have genuine full-time job offers from a specific employer in a relevant industry. Additionally, the job offer must not be seasonal. This project seeks to ease labour shortages in the sector, helping businesses throughout the province, including those in remote areas, by enabling the retention of competent people and promoting economic growth.

The Alberta government’s most recent update stated that it will help the government deal with labour shortages throughout the industry. Furthermore, it will allow firms in Alberta and rural areas to retain employees and re-establish the economy.

According to reports, the province would accept a limited number of applications for the stream while expediting the processing of other measures based on their priorities. On March 1, further information about eligibility requirements and application procedures will be made available, providing prospective applicants with thorough assistance on how to navigate the immigration process.

Immigrating to Alberta Through AAIP

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), through which the government of Alberta selects economic immigrants who are likely to succeed in the province. With numerous streams suited to varied skill sets and sector needs, the AAIP provides opportunities for skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and people looking to contribute to rural communities in Alberta.

Alberta’s government used the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program to select the economic-class immigration applicant who would be the best fit for the economy. This is Alberta’s separate Provincial Nominee Program. Similar to all Provincial Nominee Programs, there are several more streams that select candidates based on various in-demand attributes.

For example, Alberta has PNP streams that emphasize on skilled individuals in specific professions, such as healthcare and agriculture. It also includes PNP streams for rural Alberta employees and entrepreneurs.

Alberta makes nominations for selected candidates as part of the PNP system, which helps Canada meet its overall immigration and economic growth targets.

These PNPs assign a predetermined amount of nominations to the provinces, from which they can extend invitations throughout the full year. For example, last year, Alberta made 9,750 nominations for AAIP candidates. However, Alberta has not confirmed any allocation numbers for this year. However, according to the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will extend 110,000 PNP invitations to newcomers by the end of 2024.
