African Union Student Internship 2023/24

African students who possess the necessary skills and knowledge in IT, digital applications, and digital policy are eligible to apply for the internship program that the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) offer. This program allows students to work as interns, obtain some real-world experience, and travel to other countries.

In addition to learning in a multicultural setting, it will give participants a chance to gain some exposure to and practical experience in a variety of relevant professions. Giving selected applicants the chance to advance their technical and analytical abilities in a global setting is its primary objective.

Summary of an internship

Owing to the vital role that the AfCFTA will play in helping the continent move closer to realizing its development agenda, it has been decided that an internship program will serve as a means of introducing a number of African students who meet the necessary knowledge and skill requirements to the work of the AfCFTA.

The goal of the internship program is to bring in highly skilled and driven students from a variety of disciplines to work on projects related to the Secretariat’s strategic orientations and support the business operations of the Secretariat. Giving selected applicants the chance to advance their technical and analytical abilities in a global setting is its primary objective.

Primarily educational in nature, the program seeks to fortify interns’ personal and early professional abilities while exposing them to the inner workings of the AfCFTA. Learning in a multicultural setting will give participants a chance to become exposed to and get some practical experience in a variety of relevant subjects.

AfCFTA: An Overview of the African Continental Free Trade Area

Combining the eight (8) Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and the fifty-five (AU) member countries of the African Union, the African Continental Free Trade Region (AfCFTA) is the largest free trade region in the world. Creating a single continental market with a combined GDP of over US$3.4 trillion and a population of about 1.3 billion is the overarching goal of the AfCFTA.  Encouraging the free flow of products and services throughout the continent and strengthening Africa’s trade position in the international market are the goals.

The African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063, The Africa We Want, is a long-term development strategy aimed at making the continent a global superpower, and one of its flagship projects is the AfCFTA.
