POSITION: HSSE Manager
Position Summary
The Country HSSE Manager will direct and execute Puma Energy’s Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) strategy, encompassing management systems, programs, and training to minimize risk, enhance worker health and safety, lessen environmental and community impact, and promote a positive HSSE culture. This position is tasked with offering operational HSSE guidance and assistance to our national leaders while implementing initiatives that consistently enhance our culture and performance in accordance with the Puma Energy Global HSSE Vision and Regional HSSE Strategy.
Main Duties:
- Foster a strong Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) culture that encourages accountability and employee support via effective leadership and strategies for engaging individuals.
- Guide the creation, execution, and assessment of national strategies and initiatives that promote ongoing enhancement of HSSE performance and culture. Guide and impact business leaders regarding HSSE matters and initiatives while promoting uniformity in applying the Puma Energy HSSE Vision, Strategy, Management Systems, Governance, and Assurance Programs.
- Oversee HSSE compliance and regulatory matters nationwide in accordance with Puma Energy policies and operational needs. Recognize, formulate, and oversee plans to address new challenges and risks related to HSSE management to guarantee business readiness and ongoing operations. Communicate directly with external contractors, customers, and stakeholders, including national Regulatory Authorities and Agencies.
- Direct, assist, and offer advice to leadership at the site and country level when suitable regarding inquiries into injuries, incidents, near misses, violations, or other occurrences.
- Perform monitoring and measurement activities at the local level as required to pinpoint areas of non-compliance regarding the enforcement and efficacy of the Global HSSE Management System. Collaborate with site and country leaders to integrate these enhancement prospects into both short- and long-term business strategies.
- Recognize and manage site and country yearly business plans, ensuring alignment with the Regional HSSE Strategy and enhancement initiatives. Aid in the formulation and negotiation of annual country plans and budgets for the reduction and management of HSSE risks.
- Compile reports and presentations with suggestions that enhance continuous improvement efforts, address country crisis response, and support business continuity strategies. Support the creation of strategic reports to enable the country leadership team and business executives to comprehend existing and upcoming HSSE risk trends in the country.
- Engage actively as part of the Regional HSSE leadership team and collaborate with the wider HSSE Group.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) position, preferably with an emphasis on Oil and Gas, Construction, Aviation, or other high-risk sectors;
- Thorough knowledge of the HSSE legal frameworks within various local country jurisdictions and the capability to articulate legal obligations clearly and succinctly;
- Qualification in health, safety, and/or environmental field or equivalent. Preferred qualification: university degree.
- Familiarity and expertise in global standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 45003, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
Skills:
- Proficient in English, excellent written and spoken communication, and presentation abilities;
- Showcased ability in managing country projects and skills in incident investigation.
- Robust skills in risk assessment and management.
- Elevated interpersonal abilities, encompassing robust teamwork, negotiation, and persuasive skills;
- Outstanding writing capabilities with the skill to create reports and documentation.
- Proficient computer abilities and intermediate usage of the Microsoft Office suite, including HSSE digital platforms;

- Experience in a diverse, large-scale cultural setting;
- Robust leadership skills and a cooperative approach that can oversee and impact various national stakeholders, including top executives.
- Assesses alternatives and offers suggestions based on a comprehension of national compliance requirements;
- Goal-driven person skilled in efficiently handling various priorities and deadlines.
- Essential Connections and Department Summary:
- Internal – Global HSSE Team, Regional HSSE Leader, Country General Manager, Country Functional Heads, Country Operational Leaders, Country and Site Operations Teams, Supervisors, Staff, and Contractors.
- External – Regulatory Authorities within the country’s jurisdiction, Country Service Providers and Suppliers, Auditors, Contractors, Customers, and others as assigned by the Regional Head of HSSE and the Country General Manager.
