Job Overview
The Program Assistant will help the Program Manager manage a grant-funded project aimed at providing better care for sick or small newborns in Ghana’s hospitals. This project focuses on training frontline healthcare workers, improving care quality, providing necessary equipment, updating hospital protocols, and enhancing patient referrals. The ultimate goal is to lower the number of newborns dying during childbirth in four key hospitals while creating a model for improving newborn care across Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
The Program Assistant will support the successful execution of project activities, ensuring everything runs smoothly and according to plan. This includes:
- Project Coordination: Help organize and follow up on project activities, trains relevant staff, and ensure assessments are completed and findings shared. Support struggling hospitals through visits and advice. Document project progress and report issues.
- Survey Administration: Work with health service staff to conduct surveys in healthcare facilities.
- Project Communication: Assist in maintaining communication with facility leaders and health administrators. Collaborate with experts to provide technical support to local staff. Attend meetings related to newborn health policy as a representative of Kybele.
- Logistics Coordination: Work with the logistics manager to ensure supplies are available, manage budgets, and keep track of expenses.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced education, preferably in a field related to maternal or newborn health, or similar.
- At least 5 years of experience in program coordination, particularly in health-related projects.
- Experience in coordinating training sessions at healthcare facilities.
- Familiarity with the Ghana Health Service at national and regional levels is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
