POSITION: Senior Program Manager

Job Summary
The Ghana Senior Program Manager (SPM) for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is in charge of planning, running, managing, overseeing, and assessing iDE Ghana’s WASH projects. This includes current programs, new projects, and consulting services. The SPM-WASH position is very important for working with others and making sure everything runs smoothly. It focuses on coordinating, checking quality, and managing Project Managers and Team Leaders according to international and national guidelines. This helps ensure that all WASH projects are done well.
As a member of the senior management team, the SPM-WASH helps with planning and budgeting, as well as finding solutions to problems. They follow the rules and goals of iDE and will be in charge of the iDE Ghana WASH program. They will also lead the planning and execution of assigned WASH projects, making sure they align with the organization’s mission and goals. The SPM-WASH will oversee the work of Project Managers and their teams, focusing on helping each other as peers. We will need to work closely with the leaders and senior management, as well as the Business and Fund Development team, the Operations team, and the Global Programs team (especially Global WASH) at the iDE Head Office.
TASKS AND JOB EXPECTATIONS
Strategic Development
- Lead the way in creating a plan to improve WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) markets and to promote current and future WASH projects in iDE Ghana
- Create, carry out, and regularly improve iDE Ghana’s WASH program to make it more noticeable and effective.
- Help iDE Global with its 10-year plan by using ideas and viewpoints from Ghana and making the overall plan work well for Ghana.
- Make sure all water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs fit with iDE’s goals and the country’s needs. Change plans as necessary to adapt to new situations and requirements.
- GESI: Support and follow the ideas of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI). Work together with iDE Ghana’s GESI & Design Coordinator to include these ideas in every part of program planning and execution.
Technical leadership
- Help manage and supervise all new and existing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects at iDE Ghana. Make sure each project is planned, started, carried out, and finished according to iDE Ghana’s quality rules, donor requirements, project goals, and best practices in the field.
- Manage support and training in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for staff and partner groups to improve the quality and effectiveness of programs. Focus on important factors like management, funding, technology, environmental concerns, involvement from businesses, and the ability to grow these efforts.
- Guide the creation of program learning and include the best practices from the industry.
- Find ways to learn, study, and publish information about water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), as well as how to put the MERL policy into action.
- Help share useful methods and lessons learned to support the agency’s knowledge-sharing goals.
- Make sure to include new ideas and good methods.
- Make sure to understand the sector and include it in WASH programs, which cover agriculture, jobs, the environment, health, nutrition, and education. Make sure that WASH projects include climate change concerns, especially focusing on reducing impacts, adapting to changes, and protecting water sources and biodiversity.
Program supervision and management
- In charge of making sure assigned WASH projects are done well. This includes meeting goals, following donor rules, carrying out planned activities, and checking monthly progress to see if any changes are needed to reach project and program goals.
- Work with other country offices and the main headquarters on technical tasks, making sure we follow the “do no harm” rule and support our clients in succeeding.
- Visit the site often to check how the project is going, make connections with people, and make sure everything is working well.
- Report Writing: Help with writing reports to make sure they are correct, consistent, and sent to donors on time.
- Write down the program’s successes, interesting stories about people, lessons we’ve learned, and tips that worked well. This information can be shared both inside and outside the organization.
- Keep track of any problems or missing parts and share them so changes can be made to plans and schedules. Help teams write down what they learned from their projects.
- Follow and encourage iDE’s rules for honesty, making sure the program team sticks to the procedures for logistics, buying supplies, human resources, and finance.
- Make sure that programs pay attention to vulnerable groups, including issues related to gender, and include ways to reduce risks at every stage of the program.
- Keep Learning: Encourage a habit of always learning and growing. Adjust programs to meet new challenges and look for ways to improve our efforts.
- Evaluation: Set up strong systems to track and assess results, which will help in making informed choices.
Building relationships and raising money
- Building Partnerships: Grow and keep good relationships with important donors, partners, and people who are involved to get money and help for WASH programs.
- Work on building iDE Ghana’s water and sanitation goals by participating in important meetings and discussions to make our work known and to have a greater impact.
- Partnership Check: Find, review, and improve partnerships related to WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects using the right methods and tools.
- Opportunity Development: Work together with the business development team to find and chase funding options that fit with iDE’s goals.
- Proposal Leadership: Manage the bidding process and create strong proposals for both asked-for and unasked opportunities, including leading technical talks with partners.
Team Management and Development
- Leadership and Support: Give clear guidance and support in daily tasks to team members, such as the Sama Sama Team, Head of Business Operations, and Head of Credit & Finance, to make sure everyone is working towards the same goals and priorities.
- Helping the Team Improve: Regularly check how well team members are doing, create plans for their growth, and find out what training they need to help them get better and work more effectively.
- Working Together: Encourage teamwork between the Sama Sama Team, Business Operations, and Credit & Finance departments to make sure WASH projects are done smoothly and that goals for both the program and operations match well.
- Team Spirit: Work on team relationships and fix problems quickly, while encouraging a positive, welcoming, and goal-oriented team atmosphere.
- Making Plans and Setting Goals: Work together with your team members to create yearly work plans and set clear goals that can be measured. This will help everyone stay responsible and make steady progress towards important program targets.
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in leadership within the WASH sector.
- Proven skills in WASH, public health, market systems enhancement, or creative financing for global development.
- Demonstrated abilities in directing strategic programming and planning initiatives to guarantee program efficiency.
- Capability to handle diverse (multicultural, functional, socio-economic, educational, and professional) teams with robust teamwork skills, outstanding communication proficiency in a multicultural setting, and the ability for inclusive leadership.
- A well-established network in the WASH sector in Ghana
- Demonstrated ability in composing proposals and obtaining funding for initiatives.
- Proven experience in leading integrated advocacy, communication, and fundraising strategies to advance program goals.
- Capacity to succeed in a fast-paced and high-stress situation, showcasing flexibility and endurance.
- Capability to offer guidance and advisory assistance to the technical team.
- Awareness of issues in rural settings and when engaging with women, youth, and ethnic communities.
- A strong dedication to iDE’s principles and goals.
- Exhibits compassion, modesty, genuineness, and regard in the work environment.
- A strong sense of responsibility towards all duties and accountability for the role.
- Readiness to assume extra responsibilities associated with the position.
