The Sector Lead Specialist will play a crucial role in formulating and executing a comprehensive business strategy for the sector, ensuring alignment with the bank’s overarching goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Establish and nurture robust, long-term relationships with key clients and decision-makers in the Oil and Gas Sector.
- Expand and enhance the client base by identifying new opportunities and increasing the share of business from existing clients.
- Collaborate with credit analysts to conduct annual reviews of borrowing customers, and interim reviews when customer circumstances pose a risk.
- Articulate key messages, such as agreed service standards, and negotiate pricing, relationship team contacts, and new products, utilizing the most effective communication methods with customers.
- Address and resolve all customer complaints effectively.
- Identify the products that best meet the needs of customers.
- Plan and coordinate marketing strategies for new business acquisition while actively developing existing relationships. Facilitate coordinated efforts across the Group to optimize portfolio opportunities.
- Monitor compliance with risk service standards.
- Provide guidance in collaboration with the Head of the client group and managers on financial, credit, and general business practices to support the strategic goals of FNB.
- Plan and coordinate marketing initiatives aimed at acquiring new business opportunities while simultaneously enhancing existing relationships. Facilitate coordinated approaches across the Group to maximize portfolio potential.
Management and Leadership
- Identify, cultivate, and retain exceptional talent within the team, ensuring they possess the requisite skills and expertise to thrive in the industry.
- Conduct research, develop, and maintain a target list for prospective new business opportunities.
- Utilize the Customer Prioritization Guidelines to identify key customers, evaluating their current and potential contributions.
- Prepare and evaluate credit applications, incorporating personal judgmental insights into the lending process.
- Oversee customers on the “Early Warning List” to mitigate risk in accordance with established guidelines.
- Schedule regular joint visits with the Coverage Analyst and product house to customers as part of a capacity-building initiative.
- Engage consistently with the Coverage Analyst regarding portfolio management.
- Ensure that all activities and responsibilities are executed in strict compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal FNB Policies and Standards.
- Recognize and manage risks and incidents pertinent to the role.
Risk and Portfolio Management
- Continuously assess and ensure compliance with risk service standards in accordance with FNB guidelines and banking policies.
- Initiate and oversee the credit process, integrating judgmental inputs through the
- Monitor and manage portfolio quality, employing “Condition of Sanction” triggers as necessary to ensure adherence to credit guidelines and banking policies.
- Supervise customers on the “Early Warning List” to reduce risk exposure, following credit policy and guidance.
- Provide daily coaching and coordination for the Coverage Analyst to ensure consistent service quality and robust risk management practices.
- Organize and execute regular joint customer visits with the Coverage Analyst as part of a capacity-building strategy.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Coverage Analyst to ensure alignment on portfolio management objectives and actions.
- Guarantee that all activities and responsibilities are performed in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional relationship and stakeholder management abilities.
- Thorough knowledge and comprehension of risk management challenges and related processes.
- Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and the capacity to collaborate effectively within teams.
- In-depth understanding of essential corporate products, including Debt, Cash Management, Markets, and Trade solutions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both written and verbal English communication, with proven skills in sales and negotiation.
- Solid understanding of credit procedures, financial analysis, and credit monitoring practices.
- Extensive knowledge of corporate lending, particularly concerning local, regional, and multinational corporations.
- A minimum of six years of experience as a Relationship Manager, with a successful track record in client management.
- Proven success in meeting sales targets and driving business development.
- Strong grasp of credit and its associated risks.

Qualifications Required
You Will Be an Ideal Candidate If You Have
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Petroleum.
- Master’s degree in relevant disciplines such as Business, Commerce, Resource Management, or Oil and Gas.
- Possession of a professional qualification or its equivalent.
- A minimum of six years of experience in the oil and gas sector, particularly in finance, banking, or investment.
- Demonstrated success in a comparable position.
- Comprehensive understanding of trends, challenges, and opportunities within the oil and gas industry.
