Purpose of the role:
As Head of Ocean Freight Operations, you will play a key role in designing and implementing the company’s operational and commercial strategies. Your role focuses on optimizing operations, driving profitability, and assuring operational excellence in accordance with the country’s business plan.
Role Responsibilities:
- Create and implement an effective ocean freight operations/commercial strategy that is consistent with the country’s business objectives and corporate rules.
- Lead the development and implementation of ocean freight plans, metrics, and budgets to improve operational efficiency, increase profitability, and enable volume and service expansion.
- Manage large-scale national projects and initiatives to provide rapid, dependable, efficient, and cost-effective maritime freight solutions.
- Manage end-to-end capacity, optimize network procurement, and seize consolidation opportunities to improve operational performance.
- Make crucial decisions on operational sites, capacity purchase, technical support, and local purchasing while staying within company guidelines.
- Drive a strategic focus on customs business and product development, including managing preferred carrier utilization and incentive agreements.
- Conduct market profiling, and customer, and competition research to discover opportunities and problems, which will guide pricing strategies and product development.
- Collaborate with sales teams to support important customer encounters, offer price advice, and aid with bids and customer presentations.
- Ensure compliance with standards, procedures, and specifications while benchmarking and implementing best practices for ocean freight operations at the national level.
- Manage transport orders, bookings, import/export documentation, supplier performance, and customer service issues.
- Develop excellent cross-functional relationships across DHL, influencing stakeholders and encouraging collaboration to create integrated solutions.
What makes you successful in this position?
- 8+ years of increasing experience in operations, profit and loss management, and commercial strategy.
- Demonstrates extraordinary resilience, effective stakeholder management, and strong leadership abilities.
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
