Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (“UMA”) is a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International that conducts underground development and production for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
Job Description
UMA is looking for skilled and experienced candidates to fill the post of Jumbo Operator/Trainer. These are Obuasi-based Fixed-Term positions with a competitive work schedule at the company’s Obuasi operations. Reporting directly to the Shift Supervisor, the incumbent will train Jumbo Operators and use a mechanized electric hydraulic Jumbo drill to run a twin boom jumbo drilling rig for underground development mining, including ground support installation and scaling in accordance with quality criteria.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support and direction in executing pre and post operational checks on Jumbo Drill Rigs and drill sites according to procedures.
- Provide onsite technical instruction and guidance to national staff for drilling support holes and installing welded mesh.
- Provide assistance and instruction during drilling and bolting inclination, decline, and mass excavation.
- Provide assistance and guidance in assembling and running drills and drilling machines to create a certain pattern of blasted holes.
- Provide national personnel with instruction on how to follow job procedures and regulations while operating digging equipment safely and efficiently.
- Provide support and guidance in undertaking face management (hole marking, washing down, barring down, service extension, etc.).
- Provide instructions for analyzing ground conditions at the face and implementing ground control according to site needs.
- Set standards and plan your projects.
- Comply with the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety, and Technician) Regulations, 2012 LI 2182, and any other applicable regulatory regulations for underground operations.
- Ensure that every equipment is appropriately stocked with operating supplies during the shift.
- Train national personnel to understand and follow mining instructions with competence and precision, ensuring that holes are drilled to design the line, gradient, and profile.
Required Skill or Experience
Desired Educational Qualification, Skills, and Experience
- Must have a minimum of WASSCE and 8 to 12 years of Frontline Jumbo, Sandvik experience.
- Previous experience in hard rock underground mines (including international underground mining experience).
- Must have a valid Ghanaian driving and operating license (C & E Classes) and the ability to operate a manual SUV underground.
- Solid understanding and application of the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety, and Technician) Regulations, 2012 LI 2182, and other applicable regulatory standards for underground operations.
- Requirements include the ability to bolt, mesh, scale, and bore at least two development headings per 12-hour shift, as well as drill at least 600 meters per shift.
- Requirements for this position include mechanical knowledge of Sandvik DD 421-60, DD 422I, DD 421-60, and DD 421 Jumbo Drills, as well as excellent work ethics and respectful communication with coworkers.
- Able to read and comprehend planned ground support plans.
- Must have a blast certificate of competency.
- Ability to collaborate with others in a multicultural setting.
- Ability to work autonomously or independently with minimum supervision.
- Requirements for this position include a strong emphasis on safety and hazard management, as well as the ability to operate under pressure and achieve goals.
- Capable of rotating between day and night shifts.
