Job Summary
To manage and preserve a portfolio of Resource and Energy customers by establishing long-term partnerships based on efficient and dependable business support. This is achieved, in particular, by making timely risk judgments and monitoring the consistency and quality of operational service.
The post holder will also play a vital role in championing and managing change brought about by the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) Change Programme and other initiatives/programs affecting the corporate market.
The primary objective is to optimize long-term risk-adjusted portfolio contribution to both an individual portfolio and aggregate team basis.
In addition, the jobholder will be responsible for business growth with both new and existing customers.
Support the resource and energy strategy by making it more visible to industry players as a key bank in the resource and energy sectors and value chain.
Onboard new names and increase the wallet share of existing clients.
Job Description
Sales Performance
Time split: 50%.
Output:
- Together with CCM, undertake an annual review of customers’ borrowing facilities.
- Consult with customer-owners/managers on financial and credit issues, as well as basic company practices and ideas.
- Determine the critical messages, such as agreed-upon service standards and negotiated price, relationship team contact points (including introductions to new personnel), and new product improvements, and choose the most appropriate method to communicate these to consumers.
- Deal with and resolve client issues.
- Determine the most effective items for addressing consumer demands and be able to sell them on short notice, both reactively and proactively.
- Plan and coordinate any new business marketing strategies, and actively cultivate current partnerships. Coordinate approaches to the portfolio by businesses throughout the Group.
- Monitor and assure compliance with risk service requirements.
Business Management
Time split: 20%.
Output:
- Create, research, and follow up on a list of prospective new business leads.
- Using the Customer Prioritization Guidelines, identify priority customers and evaluate their current and potential contributions.
- Prepare and review credit applications, including personal input of judging information to the Lending Advisor. Applications for sanctions are made at the discretion of the individual.
- Monitor and control portfolio quality utilizing “Condition of Sanction” triggers when possible, in accordance with RM principles and bank policy.
- Manage “Early Warning List” clients to reduce risk, following H.O. and regional guidelines.
Staff Management
Time Split: 10%.
Output:
- Day-to-day mentoring and coordination of Relationship Managers’ performance to ensure consistent service quality and risk management.
- Plan regular combined visits with the Relationship Manager to customers as part of capacity building.
- Engage with your relationship manager on a regular basis to discuss portfolio management.
Risk and Control
Time Split: 20%
- Ensure that all operations and obligations are carried out in full conformity with regulatory requirements, the enterprise-wide risk management framework, and internal Absa policies and policy standards.
- Understand and manage role-specific risks and risk occurrences (incidents).
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Ability to connect with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Knowledgeable about risk management challenges.
- Professionalism and teamwork
- Product knowledge includes debt, cash management, markets, and trade.
- Proven ability in both written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated sales and negotiation skills, as well as strong knowledge of credit procedures, monitoring, and financial analysis.
Knowledge and Skills: (Maximum of six)
- Has a good grasp of corporate lending, particularly global and regional corporations.
- Knowledgeable about trade transactions and their accompanying processes.
- Have at least five years of experience in people and relationship management.
- The position requires an extensive understanding of the core range of corporate products.
- A proven track record in sales.
- Excellent awareness of credit and related issues.
- Experience with Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- A university degree or similar.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree and Professional Qualifications: Business, Commerce, and Management Studies (required)
