JOB TITLE: Accountant
Role Overview
- The Accountant’s responsibility is to support the Financial Controller in creating the budget.
- Planning, budget monitoring, financial reporting, and an examination of internal controls. Other
- Responsibilities include overseeing junior staff within the department who require expert accounting requirements and industry best practices.
You are supposed to have
- Advanced understanding of accounting standards (IFRS), taxation, and budgeting. The goal is to
- Provide great advice and support to the Financial Controller and Senior Leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Accountant’s duties at the school include, but are not limited to:
- Creating the school’s annual budget, reviewing and updating as needed.
- Monitor income and expenses with the school’s budget, and create
- Monthly Reports: Maintaining the school accounts and preparing income and expense reports.
- Accounts shall be prepared in line with IFRS and financial legislation for submission to the school auditors.
- Assisting in the preparation of the annual audit and coordinating with all parties concerned.
- Managing and managing all bank accounts, including the school’s debit card(s).
- Completing monthly reconciliation and reporting banking problems to management.
- Ensure that the school’s finance policy is reviewed and revised as needed and that the school fulfills all financial standards.
- Responsible for all aspects of cash management, including collections and disbursements, banking and security, fundraising, and school excursions.
- Responsible for completing the school’s payroll and ensuring that all papers, including Timesheets, new starter/leave/variation forms, and annual returns are sent within the required deadlines
- Responsible for placing orders and ensuring they are processed through the school’s computerized financial accounting program.
- In collaboration with the designated staff members, evaluate and attend to pay all invoices and account statements.
- Conducting and maintaining cost analyses and other statistical information.
- Ensuring that all the relevant financial data for payroll, the staff pension and Provident has been submitted.
- Ensure that all administrative tasks, checks, documentation, reports, and returns (internal and external) are done accurately and submitted within the required deadlines.
- Providing advice on legislative and regulatory compliance.
COMPETENCIES:
Technical
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Professional accounting qualification is preferred, such as ICA, ACCA, or CIMA.
- 2-3 years of post-qualification experience.
- Preferable experience working in an international school.
- Understanding financial regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to prepare for and assist with audits.
- Able to manage the procurement process, including order placement and billing scrutiny.
- Capability in payroll processing
Personality
- Thorough in assuring the correctness of financial reporting, reconciliations, and documentation.
- Maintaining high ethical standards when managing financial information and transactions.
- Excellent analytical skills for interpreting financial data and providing insights.
- Maintaining absolute confidentiality about sensitive financial information.
- Ability to collaborate with other staff members and lead financial processes within the school.
- Ability to efficiently prioritize activities and meet all financial and administrative required deadlines.
- Strong cooperation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues within and across divisions to meet financial objectives.
DIRECT REPORT.
The Financial Controller has direct management responsibility for the Accountant.
