The Opportunity
Abt Associates is now looking for a competent driver for the Resilience in Northern Ghana Systems Strengthening (RING II) project. This activity aims to improve the capabilities of all stakeholders to address poor nutrition and low resilience in northern Ghana. The RING II Systems Strengthening project will result in long-term improvements in the delivery of local services, leading to measurable gains in the nutrition and resilience of an estimated 85,000 reproductive-aged women and children under the age of five.
The Driver, under the supervision of the Operations and Logistics Lead, is in charge of transporting project staff and maintaining transportation equipment essential for project execution in northern Ghana.
The post will be headquartered in Tamale, Ghana.
Core Responsibilities
- Drive program cars across Ethiopia for project work, always ensuring the safety of passengers and vehicles and adhering to severe organizational norms and regulations on driving and vehicle use.
- Deliver project equipment, materials, supplies, and papers to project sites.
- Maintain current record-keeping systems for vehicle issues such as fuel, mileage, and trip logs.
- Make sure the vehicle usage log is updated daily and submitted monthly.
- Prepare a monthly fuel use report and submit it as necessary.
- Ensure that the car is regularly maintained and that all fluids (water, oil, petrol, washer liquid, etc.) are at the proper levels.
- Report any visible vehicle malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Report any damage or accident to the supervisor right away.
- When not in use, park the car safely and lock it.
- Keep accurate records on the project vehicle and adhere to a routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning plan.
- Before driving, check the vehicle’s oil, water, fuel, and tires, as well as the maps, and do a safety and security examination.
Required Skill or Experience
- A high school or secondary school diploma and four years of applicable experience, or an associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience.
- Clean driving licence.
- Candidates with experience working on USAID-funded projects are preferred.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to operate within a team
- Act as a project representative, always responsive and courteous to visitors, clients, and partners.
- Presentable and able to communicate properly with partners and clients.
