In 2021, the program ran from May to November. The following six streams had caps on admissions of 20,000 for healthcare workers, 30,000 for non-healthcare critical workers, 40,000 for overseas graduates, and an unlimited quota for three more streams for workers speaking French.

In addition, the Canadian government is developing a new scheme akin to TR to PR, per a June 11, 2022, statement from the minister of immigration.

There will be differences between the 2021 and 2021 versions of the program. The minister claims that the new program will be a permanent route with streams for both international graduates and temporary foreign workers.

Alternative pathways are still open to foreign students and migrant workers, even though Canada Immigration declared that the Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident (TR to PR) track would close in November 2021. In this blog, we examine three simple and well-liked pathways that temporary residents can take to become permanent residents of Canada.

Express Entry Program: Federal Skilled Worker Program

Using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), the Express Entry program, in particular the Federal Skilled Worker program, is a top route for qualified individuals to get permanent residency in Canada. Candidates are assessed using a points-based system that takes into account their age, education, work experience, language competence, and adaptability.

To be eligible, applicants must;

  • First and foremost, within the last ten years, have at least one year of continuous full-time or comparable part-time job experience in a skilled occupation.
  • Furthermore, earning an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) upon completion of a postsecondary degree that satisfies Canadian educational standards
  • In addition, it is required to establish your proficiency in either French or English using recognized language examinations.

How it Works

  • Establish an Express Entry Profile: To join the candidate pool, candidates must first establish a profile.
  • CRS Assessment: Candidates are evaluated based on their CRS score, which takes into account variables including age, education, work experience, and language proficiency. In addition, variables like work experience or education completed in Canada, the language proficiency of a spouse, or a job offer are taken into consideration.
  • Invitation to Apply (ITA): The Canadian government regularly holds drawings for people desiring permanent residency who have high CRS scores.
  • The application process entails a medical examination and the provision of police clearance certificates for qualified applicants. Additionally, they must show that they have enough money to sustain their families while they are first settling in Canada.
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR): Selected applicants obtain a confirmation following the evaluation of their documentation.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Programs in Canada provide a different path for temporary residents who want to become permanent residents. Except for Quebec, every Canadian province has a PNP created to specifically address regional labor market needs. Provinces can nominate individuals through these programs who possess the necessary skills and work experience to support their local economies.

Province-specific eligibility requirements differ, thus prospective applicants should confirm the particular requirements of the province to which they plan to apply.

How it Works

  • Interested parties must apply to the province or territory in which they intend to live.
  • If nominated, candidates obtain a provincial nomination certificate, which greatly increases their chances of being chosen for permanent residence.
  • Federal application: after being nominated, candidates submit an additional application through either the non-Express Entry stream or the Express Entry system to the federal government.
  • Federal decision: the province nomination and the applicant’s likelihood of successfully relocating to the selected province or territory are taken into account by the federal government when deciding whether to grant permanent residency.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC), designed for temporary residents with professional job experience in Canada, recognizes the importance of those who have assimilated into the country’s workforce, language, and culture. Candidates must meet the language proficiency standards and have at least one year of full-time professional work experience in Canada to be eligible.

How it Works

  • Express Entry Profile: The CEC is a component of the system for expedited entrance. Candidates confirm their eligibility for the CEC CRS Assessment by creating an Express Entry profile: After evaluation, candidates are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). tally
  • Request for Applications (ITA): High-scoring applicants are encouraged to apply for permanent residence through the Canadian government’s periodic drawings.
  • Application Process: Selected candidates must pass a medical exam and present a police clearance certificate.
  • Benefits of Canada PR: After being accepted, applicants become permanent residents and can make use of all the advantages that come with it.

Note: The CEC program does not take into account self-serving employment, job experience gained while enrolled full-time, including cooperative work terms, or plans to live outside of Quebec. Quebec chooses its skilled laborers on its own

Documents Required for Canada PR Application

  • Valid passport
  • Language test results
  • Provincial nomination certificate, if applicable
  • Job offer letter from a Canadian employer
  • Passport photos
  • Proof of funds
  • Medical certificate
