UK Family/Spouse/Dependent Visa 2024 New Salary Threshold (£29,000)

This update summarizes UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s most recent interview, which included the state of the economy, anticipated improvements, and responses to several frequently asked issues.

Pre-Statement

We are carrying out our commitment to raise the salary threshold by a large amount. It’s just being done in two phases. There must be a decrease in migration since it is currently way too high. As a result, we will reduce migration by 300,000 more than anyone has ever done before. If we are successful in doing so, I’m sure that people will cease arriving, which will allow us to lessen the strain on communities around the world.

The economy has performed better than expected at the start of the year, and we have expanded faster than some of our European counterparts, like Germany. Of course, we want to see even more growth, which is why the chancellor lowered taxes on firms investing to support our future growth in the Autumn Statement a few weeks ago. According to independent experts, this will indeed accomplish just that.

In addition, we’ve been able to reduce taxes for families due to our successful efforts to halve inflation. This tax cut is noteworthy since it lowers the National Insurance rate from 12% to 10%, which will take effect in only a few weeks in January. That will enable households throughout the nation to have more money in their pockets for transportation.

Rishi Sunak’s Response to Questions about the Current Economy

Question 1

Millions of rail passengers will face a price hike of almost 5% next year after the year of disruption people have suffered. Could you have done more to protect the cost of rail travel?

Response: the government has intervened to cap the increase in rail fares at a much lower rate than they increased last year. We were able to accomplish this because of our overall economic management, which resulted in a halving of inflation this year. The current increase, in my opinion, strikes the right balance between raising the funds that the railway ultimately needs to operate, especially in a post-COVID environment.

Nevertheless, we’re also devoted to reducing the burden on hardworking rail passengers and, in the long run, reforming antiquated railroad working procedures to make them more financially sustainable.

Question 2

You’re here today giving out Christmas greetings to Emergency healthcare staff but at the same time, you’re also refusing to negotiate with Junior doctors who’ve been on the longest strike in NHS history. Do you think they’d prefer a pay rise over these sorts of Christmas greetings?

Response: Junior physicians will be paid more. They are receiving the highest salary increase of any public sector employee. The recommendations of the independent pay review committees were approved by the government, and we now really agree with all other NHS personnel, including nurses, ambulance drivers, consultant physicians, and specialist physicians.

Junior physicians are the only members of the workforce who are refusing to settle, which is incredibly disappointing—especially around this time of year when everyone depends so heavily on the NHS—given that we have always been cooperative and willing to have conversations. I would implore junior physicians to resume those discussions and end their strike.

Since we were able to arrange with every other workforce in the NHS, including the doctor unions, as I mentioned before, I believe it is evident to all that the government has acted constructively in this situation. Though still very far apart, I mentioned that junior doctors were receiving the largest pay increases of any public sector workers, at nearly 10%, and that the government had also made a generous offer that was consistent with what we had told specialty and consultant doctors. However, junior doctors have rejected this offer and are currently on strike.

The offer is there, as I mentioned. The offer to continue talks is there, and I would strongly advise them to do so, especially given that their current pay increase is greater than anyone else’s and that every other NHS department has reached a consensus and is working incredibly hard to provide the care that everyone so desperately needs at this time of year.

Question 3

What do you say to those on the right of your party who believe that regarding the salary threshold lowering, you’re backtracking on efforts to curb record net migration

Response: A little while ago, we announced steps to precisely reduce the numbers of migration, which are far too high and must stop. actions that will result in a 300,000 greater reduction in migration than has ever been achieved. In only a few weeks, the most significant of those measures will resume in the new year. They’ll soon begin to have an impact.

I firmly believe that this principle is correct regarding family salaries. People must be able to sustain their dependents if they are bringing them into the country as members of their families. We have a salary threshold for that reason. We are currently raising the income threshold considerably and carrying out our stated plan of action.

Since we’re only executing it in two parts, the first will occur in a few months, and the second will occur in early 2025 when it reaches its full quantity. Just phasing it over the next year, it’s precisely what we said we were going to do.

Question 4

In March, you said that you were showing strong leadership by announcing military bases including Catri Garrison, which is in your constituency and would be used to house migrants. Today, it’s been reported that you’ve u-turned on that decision. What makes your constituency different from anyone else’s?

Response: No, it is incorrect. Thus, site inspections of different alternatives have been carried out by the MOD and the Home Office. They’ve concluded that Catrick isn’t suitable for a sizable asylum site, but the plan is to utilize it to shelter refugees from Afghanistan, where we have obligations following our departure a few years ago.

To put it another way, halting the boats is one of my top priorities in general. In the end, relieving the strain on hotels and other local community spaces is the reason I mentioned that I wanted to take this action. We’ve made good progress, which pleases me. This year’s figures are a third lower than last.

That has never occurred before, yet our actions are to blame for it. I’m going to make sure that the Rwanda program is approved by Parliament and that flights to Rwanda are scheduled because I’m determined to complete the job.

Everyone understands that entering this country illegally will result in your being unable to remain. You will be taken out, and if we can pull it off, I do not doubt that people will cease visiting and that the strain on communities throughout the world will be reduced.
