UK Dependent/Spouse Visa Salary Requirement Status ~ UK Skilled Worker Visa

Will skilled worker visa renewals be impacted by the new wage requirement? The Home Office recently declared that a minimum of £38,700 British Pounds will be required for spouse or family visas starting in the spring of 2024. This is a substantial rise above the existing £18,600. It is unclear, nevertheless, if this increase will apply to people who are in the UK renewing their visas.

Many people are worried that this necessary amount is too high and can cause families to fall apart. In response, the Home Office stated that if the application is denied, the applicant, their spouse, kid, or another family member will face “unjustifiable harsh sequences” under the family immigration regulations.

Major changes in UK Dependent Visa

The UK’s desperate attempts to control immigration. It was noted that the Rishi Sunak government is acting to fulfill its promise to reduce net migration in light of the upcoming general election scheduled for next year. The conservative party has proposed raising the salary threshold for individuals wishing to apply to live in the UK as one of these measures.

James Cleverly, the Home Secretary, recently declared that prospective immigrants would need to make £38,700 to qualify for working visas. This represents a significant increase of over 26,000 British pounds. He continued by saying that this is a step toward reducing the yearly net migration by 300,000 in the upcoming years.

Deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda is another policy, but one that is quite contentious. Cleverly is set to sign a deal with Rwanda to ease concerns expressed by the British courts about its plan to deport asylum seekers to that country.

Cleverly also announced the elimination of the 20% pay discount that companies could offer in lieu of the regular rate for workers who fall within the government’s shortage occupation list, as well as the restriction on the ability of overseas caregivers to bring their dependents. Since the ministers added Brick Layers to the list a few months ago to support the building industry, this is a U-turn.

After the Office for National Statistics revealed that, in the year ending in June, an estimated 672,000 more individuals entered the UK than departed, Tory MPs put intense pressure on Sunak to come up with a plan to stem the nation’s rapidly rising immigration rates.

  2. Raising the annual health surcharge on immigrants by 66% to 1,035 British Pounds
  3. To be qualified to bring a foreign spouse to the UK, one must earn at least 38,700 pounds per year.

Preventing the arrival of asylum seekers crossing the English Channel in small boats is one of Sunak’s five pledges, which he wants voters to judge him on. Ministers have been discussing this issue for months. On the other hand, the ONS data demonstrated how much legal migration has changed since the Brexit vote in 2016.

Conservative lawmakers view the rising number as a betrayal of the Brexit pledge. The self-described “New Conservatives,” a right-wing caucus that mostly occupies seats in the North and the Midlands that were formerly held by labor until defecting to the Tories in 2019, are especially vocal in their demands for action from the Tories. Who’s considered a Dependent?

You would generally be regarded as a dependent if you fit into one of the following categories:

  • You must either be the main applicant’s spouse or civil partner
  • An unmarried partner who has lived with the main applicant for at least two years
  • Lastly, an underage child.

Keep in mind that you must include certain documents with your submission. This will serve as evidence of your connection to the principal applicant. The good news for dependents is that they can apply for immigration through several different channels in addition to the primary applicant.

Currently, postgraduate students on student visas may bring a dependent to the UK, but starting in January 2024, only postgraduate students with a research focus may receive permit to do so. You may also think about the adult-dependent relative Visa, though.

Adult Dependent Relative Visa

If you age above 18 and sponsored by a UK relative, you may use this visa system. You must, however, adhere to certain conditions. The requirement for this visa may be quite high. The applicant must demonstrate that they require ongoing personal care daily due to disease, disability, or old age. Additionally, you must demonstrate that the applicant cannot pay or obtain care.
