Canada Express Entry Draw #273: French-Category draw issued 1000 ITAs on December 7
On December 7, the latest Express Entry French-Category draw issued 1000 ITAs. This was the second Express Entry draw in the same week. The most recent was on December 6, and it was an all-program draw. The most recent Express Entry lottery, however, was a Category-based selection draw for exclusively French-language candidates. The required minimum CRS score was 470.
The last draw, held on December 6, awarded ITAs to 4,750 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 561.
Following a slight break, these two draws occurred. The draw was placed on October 26th, before these two draws. On November 14, IRCC even tweeted about a potential technical issue that may prevent certain candidates from uploading their profiles. The issue appeared in the Express Entry profile builder. After two days, the IRCC announced that the issue had been fixed.
However, the reason for this halt is unknown.
Putting French Language Proficiency First
Express Entry Draw #273 was limited to candidates fluent in French, highlighting Canada’s increased emphasis on luring those with linguistic talents. This competition is intended to encourage the country’s bilingualism and foster diversity among its citizens.
In addition, the IRCC extended 3,725 invitations in the most recent Express Entry Draw.
This draw is the culmination of a series of similar initiatives, including Draw 270 (300 ITAs), Draw 266 (500 ITAs), Draw 260 (800 ITAs), and Draw 258 (3,800 ITAs), all of which emphasize the importance of French language abilities in the Canadian immigration landscape.
The Role of the French Language in Canadian Immigration
The Canadian federal government has been working hard to lure French-speaking immigrants to areas around the country. By the end of this year, Canada hopes that 4.4 percent of francophone immigrants will have settled outside of Quebec.
Eligibility for the French-Speaking Category
An applicant must meet particular requirements set by the IRCC to be considered. This includes possessing French-language test results with a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens, as well as satisfying all of the requirements given in the round’s guidelines.

Diversified Approaches to the Future of Express Entry Draws
There will be a variety of draw types held by Express Entry throughout the year. These draw types include general rounds of invites (all-program draws), program-specific rounds, and category-based rounds. The variety of draw types available demonstrates Canada’s commitment to achieving particular economic goals while also maintaining a dynamic immigration system.
It is important to check the Express Entry draw list regularly to remain current on the most recent draws and opportunities. French-speaking candidates have the opportunity to join Canada’s dynamic ethnic scene thanks to the recent Express Entry Draw 273, which places an emphasis on the importance of linguistic abilities and affords said options.

A Summary of Express Entry Category-Based Draws
The announcement for the category-based draws was made in May of this year. Candidates with high French language skills or significant work experience in one of the five in-demand professions are prioritized in these draws.
Among these are the following occupations:
- STEM occupations;
- Healthcare;
- Agriculture and Agri-Food;
- Trades; and
- Transport
These categories went into force this year to boost the Canadian economy by fighting existing labor shortages. The focus is on big industries such as healthcare and supply chains.
The most recent Immigration Level Plan 2024–2026 establishes a consistent immigration target of 500,000 for 2025 and 2026. The target number of PR admissions in 2024 will be 485,000. Despite the increased goal immigration volumes, Express Entry draws are moving more slowly. The Deputy Minister did, however, indicate that a Skilled Trades draw for professionals will most likely take place this month.
The total number of Category-based draws was 12, with about 11,000 ITAs granted. All of the candidates who received invitations were in the Express Entry pool.
Conclusion
All three of the following programs are included in Express Entry: the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the CEC, and the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Within this application system, candidates are ranked based on their performance using a Comprehensive Ranking System. Several human capital variables, including age, education, employment experience, language proficiency, and occupation, are taken into consideration when assigning points and overall scores. In every aspect, there is a point that is connected to it. Those applicants who have the highest CRS score have a greater chance of being selected for the ITA. IRCC must receive their application for permanent residence within sixty days of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA).
IRCC typically takes a period of six months to process requests.
