About Clarendon
Not only does Clarendon provide more than two hundred brand new, fully-funded scholarships each year to aid excellent graduate scholars, but it also provides the opportunity to join one of the most dynamic, internationally varied, and multidisciplinary groups that Oxford has to offer.
Why Clarendon?
Students who are awarded Clarendon scholarships not only get the chance to attend Oxford University, which can change their lives forever, but they also get the chance to make social, academic, and professional relationships that will last a lifetime within a vibrant community.
If you have been given the opportunity to receive a Clarendon scholarship, it is because the University of Clarendon considers you to be an exceptional candidate for admission. But how is Clarendon different from the other funding options available? Here are just five of the many possible explanations for this.
1. Scholarships that are completely sponsored
Clarendon provides students with fully-funded scholarships that cover the cost of their course fees in addition to a grant to help with their living expenses for the duration of their obligation to pay fees. We make it possible for our scholars to concentrate on their academic pursuits by lowering the financial obstacles that stand in the way of graduate education. In addition, because living expenses are covered, it gives our scholars the opportunity to have an active life inside Oxford and, more crucially, the time to relax and socialize outside of the context of their studies.
2. Level of academic achievement
As a result of the admissions process, which is aimed solely at selecting the most talented students in each discipline from all over the world, Clarendon scholars are counted among the most intelligent and accomplished individuals. Because of this, the Oxford graduate community views Clarendon scholarships as among the most prestigious and competitive opportunities available.
3. An inclusive and welcoming community
The Clarendon community now boasts one of the most varied populations in Oxford as a result of the elimination of the obstacles that were used for selection. In an effort to recognize and value these unique qualities, Clarendon College welcomes applications from prospective students in any academic field and from any country in the world.
Clarendon will always provide financial assistance to the applicants with the best levels of academic achievement, regardless of the field of study (African Studies, Zoology, Afghanistan, or Zimbabwe). This diversity creates many possibilities for people to interact with one another and work together, which in turn helps to form a community that everyone can be a part of.
4. A thriving local community
Clarendon provides more than just financial assistance to its students. Membership in the active Clarendon Academics’ Association provides benefits to academics. This association is managed by the scholars themselves, and its mission is to improve the quality of life of its members by cultivating a community that is upbeat and intellectually engaging.
5. We strive to be unique in the industry.
By cultivating a community of the most brilliant minds and providing you with an experience that will motivate you to thrive as a graduate student, Clarendon seeks to distinguish itself from other funding programs that merely compensate you for your efforts. We can’t wait to meet you and have you as our guest in Oxford!
About Oxford University
The University, its faculties, divisions, and colleges make up the autonomous, self-governing organization known as Oxford.
The colleges and halls
The University’s 36 schools and three societies make up its core, and they are connected to it through a federal system.
Each college is independent and self-governing, and each one has a charter that has been authorized by the Privy Council. As a result, each college is run by a Head of House who is chosen and elected by the governing body itself. The majority of the Fellows on the governing body are also employed by universities.
The three societies—Kellogg College, Reuben College, and St. Cross College—operate very similarly to the other colleges, but they are regarded as departments of the university rather than separate colleges because, unlike the others, they lack a royal charter. One of the primary variations is that the president is nominated by the governing body and then chosen by the Council.
Additionally, there are five permanent private halls that nevertheless maintain their religious identity today despite having been created by several Christian groups.
32 of the colleges and permanent private halls admit undergraduates. While Harris Manchester College is the only institution specifically for senior students, mature applicants are accepted by other colleges.
The University’s newest colleges are Green Templeton, which was founded in 2008 through the merging of Green and Templeton Colleges, and Reuben College, which was established by the University in 2019.
