Would you like a full tuition fee offset? At Berea College, you can submit an application for financial aid for international students. The only college in the United States that fully finance enrolled international students during their first year is Berea College.

Berea College does not charge tuition. All approved students receive the No-Tuition Guarantee, which pays for all tuition costs. Berea College is the only university in the United States that provides full support to all enrolled international students during the first year of attendance.

The cost of tuition, lodging, board, and fees is offset by the combination of financial aid and scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

• Students with outstanding academic potential and financial need must apply to Berea College. The majority of Berea College students have ACT (or SAT equivalent) scores between 20 and 30 and a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 in a rigorous college prep program. The ACT and SAT are both available to students.
• Additional aspects will also be considered, including levels of motivation, leadership abilities, and community involvement.
• Selection of applicants is based on merit and proof of leadership.

Language requirement: English

The basic standards for English language competency at Berea College must be demonstrated by applicants.

Document specifications:

The packet mentioned above contains all of the following items, which must be sent to the office of admissions in one package:

• Form for the International Application for Admission and Scholarship.
• Essay Cover Sheet and International Personal Essay, respectively.
• A copy of your official high school transcript. SEND NO ORIGINALS.
• Personal Statement of Financial Situations
• IFQ, or the International Financial Questionnaire.
• International Financial Recommendation Form
• Two (2) forms of admission recommendations, at least one of which must be prepared by a current or previous teacher.
• Copy of at least one of the following exams’ official results: TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, or SAT.
• To meet the deadline and include a copy of your test results in your packet, you should register and take the exam as soon as possible.

By November 1, students who are unable to mail in their application packets should email finaid@berea.edu to request an alternative means of submission. Prior to November 1, no petitions for exceptions to the mailing obligation will be accepted.

Mission of the Student Financial Aid Program

The Student Financial Aid Program’s purpose is to:

• To offer, largely through various forms of financial help, Appalachian students—black and white, women and men—with exceptional potential but little financial means the chance to pursue their education.
• To encourage a residential, democratic community culture with few economic and social inequalities by providing financial aid.

We aim to:

• to offer the financial aid required to cover the fundamental costs of education, above and beyond the family’s and student’s own commitment.
• To offer financial aid based on need (within the confines of College and federal aid laws and resources) to assist in covering some of the extra costs associated with off-campus study programs, including study abroad, that are a part of the student’s Berea College program of study.
• To give financial aid for off-campus occupations that earn money for self-help and experiences related to community service, academic programs of study, and career objectives, based on need (within the confines of available college and government aid resources and laws).
• To offer instructional programs on financial assistance opportunities, policies, and practices for students and others in order to improve community awareness.

Minors and Majors

Berea College offers 39 minors that students can combine with 33 majors, enabling them to create their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees. If your specific major is not listed, you have the option to select an independent major, allowing you to pursue your desired area of study.
