POSITION: Driver
Background:
Winrock International is a non-profit organization that collaborates with people in the United States and around the world to empower the underprivileged, expand economic opportunities, and protect natural resources. Winrock is carrying out the Making Advances to Eliminate Child Labour in More Areas Through Sustainable Integrated Efforts (MATE MASIE) initiative.
The project, funded by the United States Department of Labour (USDOL), will strengthen capacity, connections, and accountability across child labour enforcement and monitoring within Ghanaian cocoa cooperatives. It will also build cooperatives’ capacity to support vulnerable member households directly and by connecting their members with other service providers.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Driver will be in charge of providing project-related transportation for Winrock employees and visitors, using the project vehicle. The post is expected to last around one year.
This is a local/national position and does not qualify for foreign allowances.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Transport staff outside Kumasi for field trips.
Transport office and project-related items and equipment as required. - Meet guests and personnel at the airport and assist with airport check-in and check-out as necessary.
- Perform daily basic car maintenance (e.g., inspecting wheel nuts, cleaning, greasing, battery terminals, etc.).
- Run office errands in accordance with the Finance and Accounting Officer’s or Project Director’s instructions.
- Maintain the usage of a car logbook at all times, documenting information about each travel such as daily mileage, gasoline consumption, oil changes, etc.
- Report vehicle conditions to the F&A Officer and maintain a vehicle servicing schedule.
- Always follow Winrock’s car policy and federal vehicle restrictions, and keep accident reports, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and so on.
- Report any traffic offences to the F&A officer.
- Drive responsibly, defensively, and reasonably at safe speeds; drive courteously and with due respect for the safety of other vehicles and pedestrians.
- Make sure that all passengers use seat belts at all times.
- Carry a driving licence or other legally required documents when operating a car.
- Assist with photocopying, filing, and other office administrative activities when needed.
- Assist the HR and Administrative Assistant in gathering quotes from merchants, particularly those visiting Kumasi township.
- Assist in obtaining bids and procuring spare parts for the vehicle.
- Maintain an inventory of vehicle supplies and parts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Five years of experience.
- O’Level, Secondary School, or Tertiary Certificates or Equivalent
- A clean and valid driver’s license
- Local government certificate of vision exam
- Basic mechanic capabilities.
- Computer competence (MS Word or Excel)
- Experience working on international donor-funded projects.
